What's Wrong with a Milan?
I actually prefer the Milan Straw. It's heavier, yes, but I find it breathes very well. I got mine from Miller, so I know that there's are good. Now, I won't say that a Milan will beat a real panama hat in breathability, but it does the job if you can't rope the...
Open Crown Heaven
Great hat! I've been thinking about a light tan lid for the fall. That might be it!
WEEGEE, Biltmore already has open crowns released through Miller Hats, but I'm pretty sure they don't have any beaver content. They are a little course, in my opinion, though still nice.

AB as You Like IT!
I just recently ordered my first AB, and I had many concerns. After talking to Steve, however, I feel confident in what I'm buying. He is willing to duplicate the movie hats, including crown heights and brim widths to the "known" specifications. However, he is also willing...
3 inch brim
If you decide to go for a new hat, I think Akubra's the way to go. For a 3" brim, check out the Drover and the Bushman. The Squatter also has a wide brim, but a very low crown. All three are open crowned. I know Hatsdirect carries the Drover and David Morgan has the Bushman...
A steady rotation
I don't usually junk a straw after only one year. It depends on how messed up they get. Since I tend to be careful, even a cheap one can last me a few years as a "be seen in public" hat. When sweat or some other deterioration becomes unseemly, I rotate them to a BBQ hat...
I beg to differ
Sorry Sharpe, but I've seen both a Squatter and a Campdraft in person, and they are quite different. The Campdraft has less brim and more crown to work with, no vent holes, and a thin ribbon. Pretty much a dead-on replica of the Open Road. Usually, though, websites have...
OK, I got the second Dobbs. This one is the newer one, and a smaller size (yet it fits like the first one). I have to say, I like the older one better. This hat reminded me of the early (read "better") wool litefelts with a smoother finish, but it is fur felt. And it doesn't look as cool as...
My recommendation
Jay, that's a nice hat. Is it very stiff?
Anyway, I think you should leave the front of the brim alone. Instead, try to raise the side swoop a little. I think it would add just the right amount of dash. And maybe tighten the pinch a little if you're bold (not Indiana...
Are they the same?
Are Miller Hats and Miller Brothers the same company? I've never seen anything about "Brothers" on their website.
Well, if they are the same; I rather like Millers, which are Biltmores. They aren't as good as Akubra, and far lesser hats than Art or Steve would make, BUT...
Something Happens, At Last!
Well, for those who remember my smelly hat...
I made the boo-boo of returning the hat to Hats Direct via the slow boat to Australia (literally). :eusa_doh: They finally got it, and Ron says that he thinks the liner is the source of the odor. They intend to...
I'm selling off a "vintage" Indiana Jones bomber jacket. I guess, for an Indy jacket, 1990 is vintage. Plus, it's a bit of a vintage style.
Anyway, the jacket is from the Lucasfilm Fan Club, possibly made by Cooper, but that's not for sure. Size small (runs just a little big)...
Not sure about EA
I haven't dealt with them, personally, but as far as ordering from Australia in general, you'll save money even with the higher shipping because the hats are much better priced. If Hats Direct has the Stockman I can testify for their excellent service.

Different tune
Well, Marc, I like it. I mean, it's not "my kind of hat" but I see what's being done here. For the style of hat that it is, I think you did a good job on it. It doesn't look like a re-shaped Indy to me at all, and I agree that it has both a Spanish look and an Aussie look...
Ain't it a Pain!?!
Having to deal with hat size variations, and being between sizes, I've had my share of headaches... literally. I found the Snowy River very uncomfortable, too. I don't think I'm a long oval, but every hat fits differently. I even have several NEW hats of the same size...
!!!
You know me so well! lol
Razzman, I beleive anything under 2" is considered a stingy brim.
Thanks for all the compliments so far, gents. Hope to be posting the second one soon.
