I have an HJ that is NOT a Poet. It's a dark brown, with a 2 7/8" x 2 5/8" brim, brown ribbon, and a tapered crown that seems between 5 1/4" and 5 1/2" before bashing. I have a 4 7/8" teardrop shape in it, but this hat is very soft and reshapes easily with steam or water.
Size 60cm (7 1/2)...
OK, I've always loved a three-piece suit, but tailor-made and vintage are (for the time being) out of reach. Also, I'm an odd size for off-the rack, forcing me to buy suit seperates. As it happens, I've put together a two-piece suit that closely matches a vest I already owned. Would it be a...
Arrived in PA Yesterday
I've just started reading it, and I'm surprised at myself for sitting through an article on Furniture. That's a compliment, by the way. Anyhow, I did take a quick glance through it (without reading anything) and found the magazine visually exciting. And I love the...
I might have something...
I have an old Herbert Johnson that's too big on me. I don't know what model it is, but it's NOT a Poet. It has a low tapered crown and a wide brim (which could be trimmed) and it's very soft. Easy to reshape with a little water or steam...
You'll like the Gray Fed
Here's my Gray Fed, center dent. I think it has a less casual look that the c-crown.

And here's my brown Fed with a c-crown.

Part of the Pattern
Many things in the Indy films did not exist at the time of the movies (at least not in the forms they were used). The overall look was merely to be suggestive of the period, and I think it all came off rather well. This sort of debate about historical accuracy in Indy hats...
It's nice to laugh about something so serious. I figured the story would, in it's own way, say that we were all OK, but what a moment! Some people a block or so away got the real brunt of it. I was really lucky. Still, it seems some insulation around my pipes came loose in the wind, and now...
Often here at the Lounge, we talk about how well a given hat can handle the rough weather. Many of us try not to expose our nicest hats to the worst weather, so sometimes it can be tough to judge.
Well, sooner or later, something unexpected happens while you've got your best lid on. :eek...
Can't Beat Fur Felt
As I understand it, the fur is not acquired in an inhumane way... but I'm not an expert on that. All I know is, Fur Felt is warmer, breathes better, and is far more durable than wool felt. However, I've seen some fur felt hats in stores lately that are real trash, even...
The Non-Indy Answer
If you're not an Indy Fan... or if you are but don't want an "Indy" fedora, there is still good reason to go for an AB. I wouldn't be able to choose who makes a better hat; Art or the AB guys. Both are top notch in my book! I own one of Art's hats, and I have seen...
I think what Tommy means is that the hat section is suffering the loss of certain members and aspects that put it a cut above your average chatroom. That said, the "Hats" section is an industry-based subject, and people have come to rely on it for sound advice from ameteurs AND professionals...
Perfect Brims
Yes, Riccardo. As the others are saying, the width on the sides are shorter than the front and back, on purpose. It's actually a pretty good look. I have 3 Federations. You won't be disappointed. "Mid-Brown" is an odd color, though. It has a greenish look to it.

Just in case....
I hope I'm not too rude nosing into a conversation that's not mine, but in the event that it's my Stetson you're talking about, I have a reputation to protect. I can assure you that those are not moth holes. They are either dirt, or a trick of the camera. I even double...
So far, I have quite a few Akubras, an Art Fawcett, an AB on the way, an old Stetson, and some Biltmores. Oh, and a Dobbs.
I usually look for Lee and Disney, but I haven't had any luck yet. And, of course, more Art Fawcett creations! :D
