Who makes an untapered crown?
I have not seen any off-the-shelf production hats that have a tall untapered crown with a bash already in it... at least not under the price of a custom from Art, Steve, Graham, or Ken. I love it! If you can find one from a few years ago that has the optional 45 ACP cylinder, get it! You hardly feel the recoil, and it's really fun to shoot! I think the Vaquero is also available in a .44, but I've only shot a .44 Colt with cowboy loads. I can't vouch for the .44 Ruger...- Not-Bogart13

What's the difference?
Edward, I really think that the Fed Deluxe is not worth the extra cash. The finish is notorious for being uneven, and if you are anal-ret about it, you'll be doomed. I know how you feel. A good gray hat is hard to find. The Fed has a black ribbon, and is dark gray felt. If you want more of a medium gray, I'd go with a Camptown or rabbit JPD. Unless you want to go up a price bracket, in which case I highly recommend Art Fawcett. NB- Not-Bogart13

David, I'm not surprised at your reaction. I suspect that you haven't had too many (if any) previous "hat mistakes" and first hand lessons. Miller Hats
Miller's are ok for the money. Actually, they are made by Biltmore. Strictly dress hats, though. They don't do well in foul weather. The Campdraft does not have a dimensional cut brim, and it is not really the same hat with different ribbon, but it's close. The crown is the same, but the brim is bound, it's not dimensional cut, and the felt is a little different. At least that's how mine is. I also find that the Campdraft...- Not-Bogart13

Sweat! (Not Sweet)
It's just sweat, straight up, no twist. I carry a hankie for that, too... but it soaks through just as well. The summers are brutal on me, and my hats. Well, I try a few things as mentioned and let you know what happens. NB- Not-Bogart13

I finally got my hat :)!!
I have never bought from them, but I know of quite a few people who really like them. I hear they add stiffener to their hats, but that might only be some models. Best to contact them directly. I like the Tortona very much. Looks perfect for you! NB- Not-Bogart13

The Campdraft is a really nice hat. I have the same one, same color (tawny something?). Fletch; I bought my C-Draft at the same time as my first Federation, and as I recall the Fed was stiffer and heavier out of the box. Both break in wonderfully, though.
