Good morning to all,
Yeah, I'm not an Indy fan but I've ordered an Akubra Fed gray.
Waiting it I'm thinking how to shape it.
What do you adbvice me: a C-Crown or a Center Dent?
Usually I wear dress (I'm a traveller salesman) what kind of shape?
Do you think it coul be fine for my usually look?
I like very much wear my CampDraft C-Crown with my classic dress (a lot of people called me "texano"!)

Ok, I'm waiting for you priceless advice, please post some pics.

Many thanks.

Best wishes, Riccardo.

RBH is correct. The Fed has a very high crown, depending on what size you wear.
If you're close to 7 1/2, it's going to be about 6" open.
It also has a pretty wide brim.

If you like the dressier look, I would suggest the C-Crown.
It would lower the crown height a bit. And don't go too tight on the pinch.

With a high crown, center dent, and tight pinch, it will look like an Indy hat.
That's what they were designed for.

Again, it all depends on what size you wear and what look you're going for.

It's taken me a bit to move beyond the Indy look (but I still own a least one!)

Good luck. They're decent hats for the price.

Dont make the front pinch so tight and you dont have as much of the 'Indy' look.
But most folks will see a brown [in your case gray] fedora and call you Indy anyway, so I suggest try a few of the styles out see what you like.
As discussed in another thread, I think the Indy fedora captures the feeling of the 1930's, Its all in how you present yourself as to the comparison to Indy you will get.
You know until 1981 when I saw someone in a wide brimed brown fedora the only one I thought of was my grandfather!:D

When Indy first hit the screen, my faher, who grew up wearing fedoras, remarked that the Indiana Jones look reminded him of Howard Hughes. I didn't get the reference at the time, but I do now.

Many tanks to all,
now what I need are ,at least, 10 FED to try every your advice.
I'll begin with a center-dent and then I'll try the c-crown.
I really hope c-crown look nice becouse I prefer this kind of shape.
I'll post some pics.

Many thanks again!!

Riccardo.

I favor the c-crown myself, but sometimes a center dent works very well on some styles.

Arrived

Today I've got my Fed, HatsDirect sent it on 13 december: only 6 days!
I've tried to shape it, I give it a center dent shape, only few seconds without water o steam, only by hand ( and lounger's members advice).
I think I've done a decent work, I'll show you some pics.

Stay well.
Riccardo.

I love my Fed, absolutely love it, more than my vintage stuff which really does say something I think.
I could care less about the whole "Indy" thing; if nothing else it was the forums off Indy Gear.com that helped me pick out such a great hat.
One of these days (distant they may be) when I get a tweed Henry Jones Sr. suit I'll wear it with the hat for that classic academic look....

The story.

...when I saw myself into the mirror I said : "no, this isn't my hat, the crown is too hight, too much straight sided..."after few hours I said "This is a lovely hat; I love the hight crown; I love the straigh sided crown."
I love this choice of hat, with high straight sided crown, large brims, I've changed it into a hibrid shape between a center dent and a c-crown.

The top of the crown looks like a "<>" I don't know if it's easy to understand,

I've seen this shape in a lot of Golden era movie and in some hat galleries here on the lounge.

p.s. I'm very happy to have met dzacca, here. A wonderful english speaker...he 'll help me talking (translating) my thread for you.
mmm....
Merry Christmas.

Riccardo.
