Mine came yesterday, but I'm still trying to decide if I'll keep it. I was supposed to get something dominantly gray, but in the house it looks completely green. I haven't had a chance to go look at it in the sun. If I like it in good light, I'll be posting pictures.
Now, if I could just...
Having been in the shop (and walked out with a beautiful homburg), I can vouch for Oscar's enthusiasm for the business and for doing right by customers. I really hope to deal with South Street Hats again. And if anyone is in the area, I recommend dropping by.
Well, let's see... I would say the light felt is floppier and softer, but it does retain it's shape very well. By it's nature though, it will probably need a reblock faster than standard weight under the same abuse. Since the felt is thinner, I can only guess that it could be ripped more...
Art stitches in his liners. By snipping the stitches, you instantly have a removable liner. :D
There is a definite difference between the felt weights. I'm the kind of person who can get hot and sweaty in the middle of a blizzard, so I bought my featherweight expecting to wear it in all...
You know, I was poking around today, again, and I see that there are several different price brackets for Selentinos. It looks like I've got a bottom-rung hat. If that's anything to go by, the pricier examples should be more impressive. I hope.
Color; Sahara is a nice light tan, and it sounds great for the color pallet you plan on for summer. My only other suggestions would be Mojave (an even lighter tan) or light blue for a dash of color.
I can't help you with the sweating issue. I avoid felt in the summer.
You did ask about...
Mine was in the $100 range, and the quality meets or slightly exceeds that tag from what I can tell. I wouldn't wear it in a rain storm, personally. But that's mostly because I don't trust factory dye on dark hats. That's applies to pretty much all brands, in my book.
I just picked up a Selentino in Philly. I've noticed they are hard to find on line, but I'm pleased enough to consider a second at some point.
The tag did say it was from Tonak, and I don't know how the felt will handle the elements. But as a simple dress hat it does the job, but has...
Comfortable, neat, respectable. I say, skip the suit. But if sitting around all day in a jacket and tie is comfortable for you, by all means have at it. Also, if it's cold and you want to wear a lid to and from, I recommend something that you won't be afraid to leave unattended for long...
It's rabbit fur felt. It is not feather weight, though it feels a little lighter and has almost no stiffener to it. It looks fairly average in thickness to me.
Carter hit the bullseye on these. They are truly hand-made items, with all of the natural variances that go with that. Much like a hand-made custom fedora, there can be no exact duplication. And that suits me just fine.
By the way, I just a message - my second is in the mail!!! :D
I've posted my Magnoli Herbert Johnson on eBay. I think I'm just so used to stiffer felts that I can't get it the way I want it. [huh]
All my playing with it has given it a "lived in" look, but I've only worn it a few times. Feel free to PM me with questions.
Oh, and if anybody here...
As strange as this sounds, I like the Country Gent the best. Though, they all suit you well. It seems you've found just the right style for yourself!
btw; Nice LotR swords. I have Glamdring, myself.
Goose, the only luck I've had with Akybra dimensions is going to all the various vendors to see their listings. Some include crown measurements, some don't.
The CEO is listed on Everything Australian as having a 5 1/2" crown, but doesn't have a crown height for the Hampton. [huh]
I know...
That whole "people are people" concept, while true, is double edged. Good and Bad. Anyone can be rude, walking or not. :(
I feel your pain, but I applaud you for keeping your composure, and proving to be the better man in the situation.
Some semi-:offtopic: advice, from one who has...
