I favor Dobbs in terms of straw hats, and I have found many models that are only carried by one or two vendors. You may have encountered such a hat. I haven't bumped into it so far. [huh]
Looks like the unreleased sequel to The Birds! :eek:
I keep my lids in boxes, mainly. It keeps them safe and dust free. But I usually keep a few out and handy as a "current rotation" kind of thing. I use these to hold those hats;

I just talked to them. Nothing quite like it right now. I'm going with something they described as a houndstooth-like pattern of dark gray, light gray, blue, and a touch of teal green! :D
Lou; that picture would be equal to Hat People's Etra Full.
Feraud; Check out page 6 of this thread, and also, here's a link to my extra full, which is burried elsewhere in the thread, I think.

As it turns out, not all Squatters are created equal. It depends where you buy it. The David Morgan version, for example, has a higher and fuller crown compared to the direct Australian imports I've seen. I have held one on my hand, and the brim to crown ratio was a bit off. I'd say about a...
The advice I've gotten (and read here and there on this forum) is that the hat should match something that you are wearing; if not the coat, then something underneath. Some contend that this "rule" is very flexible (even breakable), but for those still taking there first steps in matching the...
As I understand it, Borso (and a couple of others) keep a few simple, plain hats in production that meet the needs of the Orthodox Jewish communities and a few others that wear brimmed hats daily.
I never heard of those guys, so I can't speak to quality or reputation. However, I assume those prices are in Canadian dollars, otherwise it's way too much for a rabbit felt or wool felt.
Allow me to give you the absolute shortest primer in felt hats I can muster, Addic.
Beaver felt is...
The ribbon being shiny could be the light, or just the material. But you are right, the brim on Depp's hat is much wider. He favors 2 3/4" and 3" brims. I'm thinking it might be a vintage Borsalino.
If you have the money and the patience, and you mainly want to duplicate the hat (rather...
Congrats, Bill! That's a nice one. I saw one of those in person once... 4 sizes too small, naturally! :eusa_doh: You will have well-deserved braggin' rights! ;)
You know, I just realized something. There are two hats called the Adventurer, and both have actually been discussed here. Akubra and Christy's!
For the record; Of the two Adventurers, Akubra's is the sturdiest. The Christy has seen mixed results upon getting wet.
I don't think this...
As BF says, the exchange rate of US Dollar to Australian Dollar favors the US right now.
The adventurer and federation are pretty well equal in terms of quality. There are two main differences;
1. The Adventurer has a wider brim, which not everybody likes.
2. Due to the exchange rate, it...
That wpl-5923 must not be a model number, because it shows up in listings for many wool hats. If you want any shot at identification, best to post photos inside and out, as well as the tag or tags.
That cap really suits you well. I don't think the full cut will be noticably different. Recent photos seem to show little difference. The extra full will be much more generous. I can say that for sure. :D
