Can anyone please recommend further reference books ?

Well, I've followed this thread from my initial question and I'm very grateful to all those who have suggested the other books and I've put them all in my Wish List on Amazon. Thank you all. As for this "free" book, I'd like to say that I only look in on the FL because I wish to learn and...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

Wow !!! That's great work. Am hugely impressed. You clearly have a lot of talent there and a super-keen eye for copying detail ... And I'd love a pair of Iwata's for my kits (just have Badgers).... That's interesting to hear that P.E. parts are relatively easy to make - it runs counter to my...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

I must admit, I know nothing about the actual stenciled AAF decals - you and others here know better than me. But the beauty of it is that it's never too late to add one later if you're still feeling that itch ... Enjoy the A2!

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

And just before this thread runs completely off topic, I've just had a really nice reply from the chap who runs the US Wounded Warrior program - and all kits are gratefully received. He (Dick Montgomery) can be contacted at dmontgomery8327@sbcglobal.net if anyone wishes to help them too. I'll be...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

Well, with me it starts with the best of intentions. And ends with the parts somewhere in the carpet amidst sheer bloody frustration and ambivalence. And ultimately a Guinness.

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

Photo-Etched parts. Jesus Christ! Have you SEEN those ?! Well, maybe with a magnifier. It's like working with frickin' HAIR ! It's anathema to me how anyone works with them. And how are they even made ?! And some are pre-painted to mind-boggling detail. How'd they DO that ?! P.E. parts in a...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

Ha!Ha! That's funny. It was Nick123's comment that made me think of mentioning that - as it's like I always say: If everyone built models, the world would be such a better place. I credit that hobby as being what ultimately made me the medical artist I am today. And yes, just when I think...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

Regardless, I will pay it forward. I'm heading over to my local model shop on Saturday (I've been building model kits since I was 6) and it's another passion of mine. I'm on a hiatus right now due to workbench difficulties in the house but I still love the hobby and feel the passion to build...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

It certainly is and I'd love another like it - and you raise a good point (thank you) - have begun a new thread on reference books. Hopefully I can obtain something else as inspiring as that one....

Can anyone please recommend further reference books ?

Good day all, Just coming from another thread that's straying slightly off-topic but it's raised a great point about something I've wanted to ask for a while ... I have the Art Of The Flying Jacket book by Jon Maguire and it's been indispensable to me and worth every cent. It's shown me so...

    Aero A-2 Sale in June...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

I think that, if one is going to the expense of a repro jacket - as we do - I don't see anything wrong in splurging on a patch or decal of some expense. Why spoil the jacket with anything less? And that group sure has a great patch, Otter. You're interested in this one...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

Ah, you're so right about that book. As a result of it, I've already got my patches for the next jacket lined up - so I just need the jacket at some point ! I suppose that's putting the cart before the horses - but who cares? It's got to start somewhere! I think our wives and girlfriends...

And you rightly mention bullion - and of course, that's another variation to consider (and I've seen some with black backgrounds and silver bullion - and not the usual blue with gold/brass bullion). I'd recommend buying a few books on A2 jackets - like Art Of The Flight jacket by Maquire, and...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

On my way home last night, some other thoughts struck me.... I would say that, we here on the FL, we appreciate details (like tasting and knowing the difference between Pepsi and Coke)- just as most people wouldn't know/care about the differences there, they'd care even less about the makers...

AAF Shoulder Decal. To apply a meatball or not?

IMHO, I think that it's perfectly fine to add a AAF decal/patch or squadron insignia. BUT adding rank or wings - that's something else entirely and I'd say that that's a definite no-no that would most likely cause offense to a veteran or serving personnel - and I know that's not we're about...
