You're absolutely right - a D1 is perfect for the UK (I had an ELC B6) and it's perfect for a temperate climate. And with a C3, it'd be great to extend that temperature a little. And as you say - if it's much colder than that (my B6 was at its best at -5C > +5C) then lift the Irvin out of the...
Hi again,
Following my initial reply to your question on my ANJ-3 thread, here are two images of my two C3's for you to see - one from Aero and the other from ELC.
As you can see, the ELC is a trimmed fleece so it's neater and fits better beneath my B3 - but the Aero version would too in time...
And I had this shot taken this morning for you all to see the ANJ-3 zipped up and how it looks without the A2 style exterior wind-flap (I recall seeing Jan Solo posting his ANJ-3 both open and zipped up and it helped me with my decision to go this way - so thanks Jan!).
Yes, that work's all mine. As a medical artist I make and paint facial prosthetics for patients, so it's not a million miles from what I do here at the hospital.
As I said, I'm thinking about doing a proper thread on this, but as I type here, I'm actually at work - supposed to be working ! I...
I love my ELC C3 - and use it often under my ELC B3 and Irvin. I find that I wear it more with my B3 as that jacket has a more "boxy" cut, so the waist is a bit draughty ... no longer a problem with the C3.
I live up here in Canada and the winters are loooong and frigid, so all my gear (B3...
Disclaimer
I have received a note from Roberto who made my patches - and he wished to clarify that he made the patches for the A2 jackets that the principal cast wore in Red Tails.
He wished to credit the other artists who also created patches for the peripheral actors' jackets.
He just...
Just to show you, here's my ELC C3 with a copy of a K.O.Munsen pin up I did a few years ago- and I added my own title.
It's just copying - and finding a nice 1940s font you like (and there are lots on the web for free) - and committing that first dab of paint ...!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the wind flap, personally I have been leaning more toward the A-2 style, in part because I am comfortable with it, and also because the specimen in LAX which was issued to a USAAF flyer was clearly the A-2 flap. It does make me wonder if the ones with that...
Thanks for the support here, Thor and Worf !
The painting technique is easy when you know how - you just need to know the right materials to use and how.
Alas, it's a story where detail matters (to imbue confidence to try it yourself) and to tell it here with photos, well, this thread would...
Nice jacket, I also like your choice in Unit Patches. I must say though that your "poses" had me dying with laughter, no insult intended. I like guys that:
1. Aren't afraid to take pics.
2. Aren't afraid to show their purty faces.
3. Aren't afraid to poke a lettle fun at themselves.
You...
Out of curiosity, I am curious why you went with the USN style zipper, as opposed to the A-2 wind flap on the original at LAX. I know they made both types, I ask because that is a question I have been thinking over as I am intending to order an ANJ-3 in the future.
A good question - and one...
An original ANJ-3 at LAX
Thank you very much!
I did a boat load of research into the origins of the ANJ-3 and came upon this very cool original ANJ-3 that is on display at LAX and it inspired me with mine.
Hi everyone,
This is my first post, so I hope it passes everyone’s muster …
This is my latest addition that I hope you all might like to see – my Aero ANJ-3.
Having had a couple of A2's before and finding myself in the market for another jacket, I wanted one after I’d done some research on...
The fit is perfection, Dave and the jacket is sensational. It's gorgeous. Let Ol' Man Winter try doing his worst now !
It's clearly not a case of how the jacket will last - it's who you're going to leave it to !
Lol. You might well right, but we all know how it turned out for the drill instructor, don't we? :D I think Edward has got it right, and I do wonder how many people on the FL have looked at LW's site, seen something they like, but have been deterred by its proprietor's rep?
That's me for...
Spoken like the bachelor I used to be ….! :D I I’d have said precisely the same thing on upon a time.
Never say never ! ;-)
But I had some overlap in my collection. Having spent the best part of 5K Pounds at ELC (when I was single for the most part, of course), it was a fair point that I...
