Well, looking over Sean's amazing work, it seems to me that I've solved the riddle of what to do about the patches ... I'll start with him.
Then there'd just be the A2 to hunt down of course ... the Bay would seem to be the most economical way to find a good russet A2 (and the price has got...
Holy smokes! Excellent work to be seen in that thread ...! Many thanks for the heads-up B-24J!
I'll be sure to drop Sean a line and see if he can help me out with my leather ATC patch plus the AAF and CBI shield patches ... Thanks again for the good lead!
THANK YOU ALL - for your many replies and admitting just how much we're all addicted to these jackets! It's been so good (and surprising!) to read of how many of us have more than one A2 ... thanks for taking the time to respond - I appreciate it!
So as a result, I've been trawling the web...
Thank you all for the opinions - each one very interesting and very much appreciated - as well as the unanimous vote of confidence (I should have known!! Glad I'm not the only one like this!). The Yeah's have it! :)
This is a hobby after all and one to be worn - and as Jeff M says, we could...
Hello Otter
Nice idea ! Where'd I get one of those please?
The A2 I have in mind is an Aero in the sale section - and it appears to have had a name stenciled in the liner - so that'd fix that nicely!
Thanks!
Good day everyone,
I seem to have a bit of a moral dilemma and thought I'd share it for opinions.
I have an Aero ANJ-3 in seal brown which I'm very glad to have in my small collection (B3, Irvin, Luftwaffe and a couple of C3s) and it rounds out my seasonal wear very nicely.
But since a copy...
Hi Siggy,
It's my pleasure with the compliment, mon ami; it's merely credit where credit's due. And you clearly have a passion for these things, as do I, but you're clearly in another league with decades more interest and experience on me and it shows. I've only bought the Battle Colors books...
I take my hat off to you, Siggy. Your work is incredible. Clearly you know your kung-fu when it comes to this work. It takes a lot of research - and a very keen eye to see the detail and still capture the flavour of the era just-so - and you certainly do!
Bravo, Sir!
And like you, I've said...
I have the Aero ANJ-3 (posted elsewhere on the FL) and I adore it. IMHO, it's the best of both worlds from the A2 design - it has the same general appearance but more practicality and comfort. And I love the goatskin hide. I have never seen the G&B model, so I can't comment on that, I'm...
Sorry to hear that you're being deluged with water (Jet-Ski. That's funny) - I know from my family reports from home that the weather's been very duff at your end - and I really shouldn't complain about being baked ...!
I agree - I'd leave the jacket for now as it looks great as-is ...
BTW...
This was me last weekend at the Hamilton Air Show - before I got my "farmer's tan" in a single day! Thank God for sunscreen.
Couldn't believe this beauty was actually there ... and it flew! And with an FW-190. Incredible. A top day out as usual ...
To be honest, It Ain't 'Alf Hot, Mum sums it up nicely. Very hot and humid and we've had lots of thunder, lightning and downpours (we've had a flooded basement. The fun never ends). It's feeling like 40C with the humidex and it's just toasty out there. Thank God for air conditioning!
And crocs...
I'd say it depends on the jacket.
I used to have the 352nd A2 from ELC - and the field mod. inner pockets made sense to me when I ordered it. And it was beautifully made.
But put more than a cheque book in either of them: instant paunch. Not flattering. But more than that; those pockets are...
I personally prefer a more "blousey" A2 over a trimmer style - not quite to that extent, but some would I'm sure. And one can't tell if the wearer has (erm, I mean HAD!) a bit of paunch and it all depends on the climate too - some like some room for some layering (I know I do).
I wonder what...
