$300 doesn't sound too bad just for three pairs of "pink' OD winter weight trousers alone (the repros are $120 each from WPG). but to get a couple keeper pairs plus all the other stuff and STILL come out even- not bad at all...
This lot is all US Army and all summer stuff- no "pink" or...
Thanks guys- once again I couldn't have done it without Jerome's advice- check out his site:

Odd thing about the color, when I'm in sunlight it looks good, but under flourescent lighting it's ALMOST too red- tough to get it just right.

I posted this a while back on the VLJ list- if it's a little too in-depth jacket nerd (as my wife calls us) for the lounge please feel free to tell me...
This is a review of the Aero “Indian” made cowhide A-2, Russet color size 44. I bought this jacket used off e-bay with some horrendous...
Probably just leave it plain. I may re-patch the jacket to represent the 449th FS, my uncles' unit (he flew P-38's in the CBI), but that's about it. I'm also going to replace the knits, the waistband has no elasticity left.
Tempting though, a P-38 would look pretty good across the back...
I got lucky on this one- usually large sizes (I.E modern sizes) gear gets pricey. I think since this stuff is post WWII, and not listed that well it went under the radar.
It's all still '40's cut though- big, roomy, and comfortable with high armholes...

I bought the A-2 off e-bay with some unmentionable nose art painted on that I immediately removed with windex per Jerome's (on the VLJ) advice. This removed the objectionable but left a large area of removed finish. I also ran the jacket through the wash and wore it until dry to help remove some...
Far out...
I had no idea it was cowhide- when was my jacket made then? That A-2 has been on a long sad journey, look what I had to fix:
From that to this:
I have a thread about this jacket on the VLJ I may have to post over here at some point.

BTW it's a little off...
I won an auction last week for a '50's Army uniform grouping- just got the box today and I thought some of you might find it interesting. The amazing thing about all this stuff is it actually fits me. The shirts are all 16x34 and the pants are 36x33-34 with one pair a 37L.
Here's the rundown...
Here's the same Indian made Aero in the Russet color- size 44 as well. The goat is very thick on these, and super soft. I'm a little undecided on the fit, I'm 6' and sometimes it rides hard on the front of my shoulders. Other than that I like the typical Aero high waist, and the construction is...
As far as I know, there has not been a true "crusher" style peaked hat made since WW2. Even the repros have a stiff brim, and most of them have that "South American Dictator" look going on. The USN style hats all have a stiff brim and headband. They look pretty good with the stiffening gromit...
I'm partial to the vintage Bancroft USN/USCG petty officer hats- no scrambled eggs or insignia (I'm not comfortable wearing signs of rank I didn't earn) and a normal sized cover. The older hats have a wicker headband support while the newer ones use plastic. Any number of them on the 'bay most...
I've been having good luck with the stuff sold at Trader Joe's- I'm always trying something new so I don't have a favorite brand. I agree about Starbucks coffee- undrinkable unless you get a coffee-ice milkshake (or whatever their name for it is). I don't go there much anymore, but when I do I...
Has anyone tried the trousers from either WPG or Eastman? The last pair of chocolate officers trousers on E-Bay in anything remotely near my size (modern 34-34, more like a period 36-34) went for over $120. For that much I'll buy the repro- besides, I always feel nervous in 60 year old...
I'm thinking it's about time to stop scouring e-bay and department stores looking for a near-enough pair of pinks and greens. I could have bought one replica pair of officers' trousers for the amount of money I've spent on various pants trying to get the next best thing for cheap. What's the...
ARRGH! Handwarmer Pockets! What is wrong with people...
Still, if you look at it from a military point of view a flame-retardant A-2 is a pretty good idea. Too bad it's such a modern ugly cut.
Platon, you should post this on VLJ- I bet those guys would get a kick out of it.
