I don't mind the Joseph hat, and I think I know what it is. I rented the dvd of the pilot, and had a chance to study it while I had a Bencraft catalog on my end table (it happened to arrive that day). I'm almost certain it's a Stetson Saxon.
Also, I might have spotted a couple of other...
Welcome to the fun, Bill. Don't feel dumb about the COW thing. It took me a year of noodling before I found out... now I'm one of the regulars over there! lol
It is absolutely NUTS how the Lite behaves! Not great for the dead of winter, but otherwise.. wow. I had Art pre-shape mine, but in hindsight I think open crown would be the "bees knees."
Yeah... it's amazing hard to find the pics of him in the nice hats. But I've seen him in some better stuff lately. Also, I read that he picked a true fedora for the Grammys as a nod to Michael Jackson.
You know, I thought their boxing choice was poor, too. But having received 5 hats from them, and used those same boxes numerous times for shipping hats in and out, they seem to fair better than any other method, even double boxing! lol
Ditto that. I have yet to find water more trustworthy than distilled. Also, wearing a hat in a good rain offers a more natural means of getting wet, but it's not always convenient to wait... or to immediately sit down and work on your hat once you get someplace dry!
Not necessarily, Tom. I have a Blue Smoke dress weight, and I notice that it's softer and lighter than some of my other VS hats by just a tad. Actually, I find similar differences between all my VS dress weights.
Is the felt really really thin and hold a dent with just a light nudge? Or...

It looks like I got beat-out by somebody else. :eusa_doh: The guy still has an olive brown, but it's not what I'm looking for. So, if somebody wants a lead on a 7 1/2 olive brown soft-bill crusher, let me know.
If you only want to flatten it a little, but want to keep the general curve, spray some cool distilled water on the underside of the brim and work it with your hands while watch tv (to avoid boredom).
If, by Jerry Lee, you mean WPG, it looks really tall to me. Almost silly tall. That's one of the reasons I felt it was the also the USW cap. If not, what makes one high cap less wrong than another?
My thing about the piece is, I can't figure out what he'd consider an "A"! His words don't help at all with that. [huh] Writing lessons needed, I suppose.
Thanks for that link. If I follow the visual examples right, it seems that the true crushers had that "falling back" look about the front, while the converted visor caps tended to keep the insignia straighter because there was still a front spring or plate in place. Am I understanding that...
