Speaking of light sand-colored hats... I posted my favorite color combination (the green on black), but my favorite hat so far is a much lighter, much more dramatic contrast:
I don't really have a preference, though I find it easier to coordinate a hat to my clothes if it's a same color combo. Bold contrasts are mainly my fun hats, though. I prefer them when I'm in a particularly good mood.
My favorite combination so far;
My wildest;
I'll second the request for pics and measurements. Especially sleeves and body length. It sounds like a beaut.
Also, USAth. seems to go by chest size, not s,m,l,xl, xxl. So, do you know what numeric size it's supposed to be? Or, if it's fits you, what your chest measurement is?
I submit two counterpoints. 1. Maybe the reason that most fedoras sold today are 2 3/8" brims or smaller because that's all we have to pick from. (Maybe) and 2. I view modern hat styles like any other clothing style that's readily available today - considerate only of those who conform to...
If you check the whippet stats, it's just a Downs (4 inch crown, 2 3/8 inch brim) with a bound edge. Nice hat, but still just another "small" hat. :(
I'm not denying that smaller shapes and sizes are called for. There are hat wears for every configuration of dimensions. But I look at the...
Well, I like the pinch. It looks tighter than a Temple. But that crown and brim are, as with most current Stetson, a bit small. I mean, do we really need another Stetson with a 4 inch crown and a 2 3/8 inch brim? The design of this hat looks like it should be taller and wider.
Don't get...
Well, compared to today, most vintage hats over 30 years old are better if they have survived this long. Stetson, Adam, Disney, Lee, Knox, and Schobel rank as my favorites.
Among current mass-produced hats, Stetson and Biltmore are fair hats, but are only a shadow of what hats once were...
I generally use the distilled water trick, but I also keep in mind the hat. Some hats don't do well with water, some don't like steam.
For a pinch issue, I usually start with a little steam. Boil some water and hold the pinch area of the hat 8 inches away from the water (in the steam) for...
Time for a little love to my VS "Desert Rose." I don't wear this one often, but it remains my favorite. I won't wear it on rainy days because I have too many nightmares that involve mud-puddles! :eek:
It's great when the younger guys get it.
As long as this thread has been resurrected...
I got a horn-beep and a wave outside a pizza place while wearing my brown newsboy. It came from a passing yellow/orange delivery truck of some kind. Was that anybody here?
I'm glad you're not Akubra then. The hats cost less ordering overseas! lol
By the way, SlyGI; unless there have been changes that I'm unaware of, the Stetson Nostalgia comes with an open crown. Which means you can copy the Margate if you want. :D
Thank you very much.
It is the Extra Full cut. They take a littke getting used to, but there's lots of room to play with the look. All of my Hatpeople caps are Extra Full.
At last! My latest Hatpeople cap has arrived! Thus one is not actually tweed. It's actually started life as a poorly fitting wool blazer. I was unable to sell it, and it would have required serious modifications to make it fit. But I loved the colors, so I had a hat made from it. The...
Stetson has a couple of other models that are similar, but none with a 2 1/4 inch brim this year. The Sutley and the Firenze seem closest, and would have less bold ribbon colors. I still favor Margate, though.:D
I agree that the angle of view and the brims being up are giving the illusion of a shorter crown.
In any event, vintage OR's and Stratoliners (very similar) turn up on Ebay frequently. You might find what you want there.
