"Length/Width of head opening: 8 in x 6 1/2 in"
Not to be rude or anything, but this doesn't really tell us anything. Believe me, I tried going by this in the past, and disaster is al it will bring.
Please list some sort of size. If you can't measure, or the tag is missing/inaccurate...
I do have a habit of naming my custom hats sooner or later, since they don't have model names. I'm still stumped on one or two, which may have to earn it with a story.
So far, I have a hat with a slight dandy gangster vibe to it that I call the Alfonse, and my Art Fawcett lids are...
I'm a bound-edge lover, but we all have our passions. The under or over welt, as Kao indicates, will be functionally advantageous with the light weight felt if you don't want the ribbon binding. For the the regular dress weight, it won't make a difference in terms of practicality. However, if...
I have to agree with Torpedo and Stan. #4 is a bucket hat, I think. The others all pass the minimum stats for a Fedora. Like a "tuxedo" a Fedora can be made in many styles.
"Trilby" is a British term, I believe, which originally referred to a stingy brim hat with fedora crown, as opposed...
I have to say, I like the Film... and the Venezia. As Borso's go, the Film is the first to really grab my eye enough to be tempted, especially since I don't have a light gray hat right now. But... between that logo and duribility-to-price ratio, there are other hats I would buy before it.
Yeah, hear you. But a deerstalker would never work in a serious Holmes film today. I was expecting a bowler, but I see why they did what they did. It's easier to get the rumpled look they were aiming for with a soft fedora than other choices.
As far as "sanitizing Holmes" (I like that...
I don't know how much it rains out there, but I'm guessing that winter doesn't get cold enough for really heavy coats. If a trench coat is your version of winter wear, though, then the combination makes sense, even without the rain.
However, I've been where you are... except that I'm my own...
I helped somebody out with the Lock & Co mystery before. I think they got confused. Check out the hat that Downey wears in the movie with Jamie Foxx - the one about the homeless musician. That hat appears to be one of the hats from Lock & Co. The Holmes hat is still a mystery, as far as I...
Well, they use their hats in very different ways, commensurate with their personalities and the images they want to project. Depp usually goes for a Bohemian Artist kind of a thing - very "I have style but I don't care." Jackman, who's a bit more of a showman, seems to wear hats like the...
Well, I'm glad to see this baby get a new home at last. And to a neighbor, no less.
Cane, since your new and from the area, allow me to point you to the Events section - we're trying to organize a Philly gathering soon.
Enjoy the new hat. Art's work is fantastic.
OK, I'm running a little behind with this one. I actually took this photo before heading off for Thanksgiving dinner. :o
Please excuse the zombie-like expression. I was not feeling my best that day.
(Yes, I fixed the tie before being seen in public.)
I like the Teal, Levallois!
I have one green hat... kind of a sage color. I wear it a lot more than I expected (and yet, not one one photo). I also used to own a powder blue Open Road, which I miss. I out grew it. At this point, I'm seriously thinking about more greens and a new blue.
I just wanted to put the word out; If anyone happens to purchase from US Wings and receives a Free Aviator Scarf that they don't want, I'd be interested in it. Maybe we can cut a deal?
Thanks!
Swatches are always helpful. Ask other prospective hatters, as well. Most will gladly send them, some will want them back.
To my eye, though, it looks likes a color I have found often. It looks like Art's Granite, or Penman and AB's Seaplane Gray. The Baron link descibes it as "Western...
I have been told that there are other vendors out there, but US Wings is the only one I've found. Well, actually, I found the exact same hat for twice the price, and prompt blocked them from memory. :eusa_doh: A re-enactor I know says you shouldn't have to pay much more than the Wings price...
That is one of Art's creations. If I remember right, I asked for the felt color, the bash, and expressed a desire for an eye-catching ribbon choice. The results were... well... when I pulled it out of the box for the first time, I found out the literal meaning behind "breathtaking." To this...
