Well done, indeed! so wonderful to have someone nearby that can do
what needs to be done, 1st time. One of my best friends -unfindable now-
is terrific hatter, and used to clean and block for me before I had any real idea
what I was dealing with...if only he would show up-with some old...
Just terrific. Love the vagabond. and that's one snappy OR. Stratoliner. Oh
heck, they're all terrific. Can only hope for a 7 3/8 and good luck. Thanks for showing us these hats Douglas-it's how I've learned an awful lot about how hats
should look-thank you, sir.:eusa_clap
What luck- I've got a Borsalino Allesandria with a wind trolley-seems to
be an extra-long wind trolley, room enough to loop it around the hat twice
before it reaches the ribbon again. Does anyone have advice as to how the wind trolley is supposed to be attached-or is there a thread I've...
Congratulations lucky bidder! terrific hat, would have scooped it in a minute-but I'm really trying to buy MY size, rather than stretching up a size...would have altered the lines too much for such a fine hat. Well done, you two.
Great job!! You've saved a perfectly good hat from extinction, and hopefully some new member will gain the knowledge that these hats have a "life" to them, and a long one, given the care needed. Does'nt have to be a throw-away society, unless we let it be.
Thank you, Douglas and John, for reminding us of the basic etiquette that
should pertain to daily life, with or without a hat; we seem to be the last generation that will have heard these guidelines first-hand, from fathers and mothers that performed these simple acts with a smile and a...
what they said. but don't quote me. very solid choice-now sit back and look at all the others to be seen-I'd advise looking at Marc C's. gallery of hats, and Douglas' rotation thread-an education in hats, free. Welcome to the lounge, friend.
AH...for comfort and reliability and guaranteed fit or send 'em back-L.L.Bean.
of all places. No kidding, they carry a great pair of jeans. I've got about 18 pair of assorted-Wrangler MW13's, Levi 550's, Gap (fall apart easy but older ones great cut) and more and more. Never got to the...
Ahem. After over 16 yrs in the antiques business-real antiques, not "collectables", with a successful business to show for my efforts, which
were mostly the result of diligent scholarship about the items I bought
and sold, primarily pre-1840 Connecticut River Valley antiques, and having...
Sitting in front of a mute screen watching my life scroll by, hoping to score the
hat that will be "the one!"-and spending money I don't have, and missing my
wife-only downstairs, but a million miles away...
what happened to being an artist and critic? what happened to the exciting chase of...
Weegee & Art: I view hats as sculptural objects infused with the spirit of the maker and the wearer-to see the hat in the photo alone, and then sparkling with the love of the moment so clearly evident with your lovely wife-you guys did what so very few can ever understand, let alone achieve-the...
Deanglen: That is perfect. Don't change a thing. I'm going to print the photos-with your permission, go down in the basement and try to get that
terrrific look on one of my OR's (now up to 4, and haven't lobbied for OR membership- don't have photo capability) The hat is you. Thanks for a...
Welcome!! "look before you leap" is so appropriate for this- they're so many hats you could spend thousands on before you find one that's comfortable AND looks good, take your time, try on as many as yr. noggin can stand, and watch these guys!! and listen...you'll hear an awful lot of knowledge...
RBH :eusa_clap :eusa_clap Great lookin' lid! Is there a difference in sizing between
the Akubra line and an OR? I was considering one, but wondered about the basics-like will my 7 3/8 LO be the same as theirs? You look like you really are
enjoying the hat-nice to see.
I also would recommend the Open Road, the older the hat the better-softer, better felt, and better feel. If you can, a Stetson Stratoliner would be great- and there a lot of vintage fedoras to be found that have the Stratoliner look- Dobbs, Adam,Resistol, and more. Some of the cheaper "copies"...
The fun question to ask is "what size is it?"...terrific looking arcane instrument, a piece of sculpture in its' own right, and one heckuva functional work of ingenuity what a good score-congrats!!:eusa_clap :eusa_clap
Used to catch Mose at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA-smallish joint, sit so close you'd have to pass Mose a drink from the waitress- extremely cool guy, getting to that point that you should catch him now-he's been around a long time.
Real piece of American Jazz history,a must listen for...
OH MY FUR & WHISKERS I don't believe what I just read "over there" . Are these people for real? or still stuck in the land of make-believe? takes all kinds, proof once again; just watch where you put your hat down...
