Helping out a relative newbie

Hey fellas! I hope y'all can help me out a bit. First of all I'm a relative newbie to hats. I wear this straw during the summer http://dadshats.com/dobdeioncolr.html but that has been the extent of my hats other than ball caps. Now I'm wanting dress fedoras, dress straws etc. etc. Needless to say I've been bitten by the bug. I recently won this on evilBay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...80036316722&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1 Did I do okay? Secondly, I'm now looking for a dress straw (and eventually another fedora in black and a field fedora). I really like this hat http://www.bencrafthats.com/product.php?pid=194&subcname=Straw+Hats but I wish it had a little narrower brim (I'm relatively tall and slim and I believe narrower brims look less "plantation" or western when it comes to straws and I want one narrower than my current straw) Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for a 2 to 2-1/4" brim with a teardrop or diamond crown. I've found some that are similar but are a lighter color or are stingy brim. I really like the color of the Tesi hat best and I think stingies are too narrow (no offense to those of you that prefer them). I appreciate your help!

Dear Big Dawg,

Looks like you did fine on the Stetson. I remember seeing it, and being sorry it wasn't a larger size.

As for a straw hat, Panama Bob is a seller here who deals with straw hats. Most of his hats are the larger brim style. Keep looking, I'm sure you will find what you want.

Welcome!! "look before you leap" is so appropriate for this- they're so many hats you could spend thousands on before you find one that's comfortable AND looks good, take your time, try on as many as yr. noggin can stand, and watch these guys!! and listen...you'll hear an awful lot of knowledge in a given day. WOOF!!

Deanglen- if that's you in your avatar, what hat is that???

Very nice score on the Stetson. Like Lorne I also saw came across it and had wished that it was a larger size. I'm glad to see that it went to a Lounge member. It looks like a great hat, better than my "starter" hat.

Keep your eyes open at "that auction site" as well as in the Lounge Classifieds section. But be careful, hats have a tendancy to multiply quickly.

We look forward to seeing pictures of your new hat when it arrives.
