Dobbs Hat "Open Road" FOR SALE

This is a vintage DOBBS silver gray hat, unblocked, 7 1/4 size. It has a 2 3/4+ inch brim and about a 5" tall crown. The ribbon is matching silver, and the edge is bound with a narrow sewn ribbon binding. There is a decorative wind cord attached to the ribbon. The ribbon is the same as found on an "Open Road". The interior is clean, with an ivory colored liner, marked "DOBBS" Fifth Avenue, NY. The leather sweatband is clean supple and stamped with the vintage owners intials "JEP". The Store is Harry Yesness, Casper, WYO. Hat model is stamped "Pusher". Size tag is 7 1/4. Bow is cord with feathered trim. Underside of sweat is "UMB $15.oo", and ink stamped 7 1/4/

This hat is in mint condition, no mothing or smells. It does have usual vintage "age" to it.. I can only describe this hat as a "joy" to open upon receipt. The felt is very soft, and dense. I doubt that it was "never worn" or new old stock, but this puppy was probably worn only a couple of times, and then boxed in some guy's closet. I bought it years ago, before I found out my hat size is 7 3/8. This hat is so clean, I think it is a sin to "stretch" up.
The "bead" around the bottom of the sweat (plastic edge at bottom) is crisp and shows no signs of wear or of having been rubbed on table top when set down. Seams, sewing, and workmanship are flawless. THIS IS A GEM. You will NOT find such a hat on OFAS...

This hat comes with a VINTAGE DOBBS HAT BOX in MINT CONDITION, with NOT MUCH WEAR! For being as old as it is, the box looks new.

There are Open Roads and there are OPEN ROADS. To me, this is one of the latter. A very, very fine hat! The color, proportions and workmanship are just beautiful, right down to the frog-looped white cord at the back of the sweatband.

The opening price seems reasonable to me; this hat would go for more on eBay. Hope that someone here buys it! (I certainly would if I didn't have my 'Bantam'.)

Congratulations lucky bidder! terrific hat, would have scooped it in a minute-but I'm really trying to buy MY size, rather than stretching up a size...would have altered the lines too much for such a fine hat. Well done, you two.
