I was wondering if the bow ribbon on Mike's hat pictured below went all the way around the sweatband. The very old hats I have seen usually have the leather cuts all the way around the top of the sweatband and it is obvious it goes all the way around. -

Cedar Blocks in the Hat Box
I don't know how effective it is but my Black Sheep hat box has the cedar glued to the center of the top. Since the hat is upside down it sits in the middle of the hat opening without a chance of touching the felt. The cedar block in JLee's hat box is probably more effective because it is closer... -

I agree. If it fit me I would leave it like it is. I just thought I'd mention that option though. After looking it over closely I thought to myself that with a brim binding and new ribbon it would look like a Stratoliner or Open Road. It is a good quality hat but the sweatband and liner look like they are not in that great of shape. If you wear a 6 7/8 you shouldn't have a problem finding a lot of hats in better shape. -

The previous owner just tightened up the adjustment bow string (or whatever the proper name for it is). Those cuts at the rear of the sweatband were there originally. It will probably be fine once that string is loosened and whatever is behind the sweatband is removed. It's not an Open Road... -

I recently purchased this hat and the Seller said it didn't have a size tag but he bought several hats from the same estate and the others were 7 3/8. Tim, The staple hare is softer than 100% beaver? What is staple hare anyway? Must be different than the hare felt I'm familiar with. Beautiful hats by the way and a wonderful gesture. -
