I would have bet money that hat would go for more than that. I don't think I have ever seen a Stratoliner on Ebay in a size larger than 7 1/2. Looks like it is in very nice shape too.
Thanks for the compliments guys.
Perry, you are going to love the granite OR clone. A great color for an OR style hat.
Daniel, you can't go wrong with anything Art makes you. The hardest part is picking which color felt. I would recommend getting the Silverbelly for your first one. Art's...
VS Black Cherry
Here is a quick indoor shot of my VS Black Cherry with a cattleman's crease. I'll have to get somebody to take a picture of me wearing it. My self portrait shots are pretty poor and don't do the hat justice.
Thanks guys. I really like the subtle look of the ribbon bow. Art has been trying to get me to be a little more adventurous with my hats. He actually did that as a surprise for me and I'm very glad he did.
I'll try to take some more pictures of it creased. I hate to ruin the pictures with me...
MikeP,
My Black Cherry has the same bow and dimensions as an Open Road except that Art added a maroon colored ribbon for the knot of the ribbon bow. Just this little addition really helps to bring out the Black Cherry color. Like Tom mentioned, let Art help you with the ribbon color. The...
Josh,
I wanted one of these too but they were out of my size. They sent me an email stating that the Biltmore Pinch Hat was the same hat except they had creased it. They said they had one of those in my size and asked if I wanted it. So I have one in Fawn on its way. Once I get it I'll post...
Alan,
That is a beautiful hat and some great detective work. I have a couple of Shudde Brothers's hats. I'll have to get them out and see if any have the RENSH marking.
No problem. I had heard that tea was a good dye but since I don't drink tea I decided to give coffee a try and it turned out nice. Didn't give it that factory dyed look but more of an aged dyed look.
Tom,
The leather hatband looks great. I've made a few of them myself using the buckles and straps from Tandy Leather Factory. One of the best looking ones I made I dyed it by letting it soak in black coffee for awhile.
Rogera,
Great looking Open Road and Garand! Two iconic pieces of American history.
I have a couple of Garands that I purchased from the CMP. If you decide to start collecting them it is hard to beat their prices and they deliver directly to you.
I have both grade felts in silverbelly and I can't tell much difference in the color. The Heritage felt appears to be more finely pounced and as a result they tend to reflect light differently. I think that is why they appear different in photographs. Separately they look exactly the same to me.
Very nice overalls. This may or may not interest you but the bottom photograph was taken on the Nellie Bee which was a ferry boat that ran between Aransas Pass, Texas and Port Aransas, Texas. I remember riding on it when I was a kid. It was named for Nellie B. Connally the wife of John Connally...
