Che,
Very classy looking boots. I would be interested in them but I'm afraid they are a little big for me. I wear a 10D. Sounds like they are close to my size though.
Thanks guys.
Jauntyone, the vent holes are a neat feature. I can't really tell if they do much because I leave my liners in but they certainly look old school and I think they make the hat stand out as a custom. Your hat looks great. The profile view of it is classic.
Daniel,
I definitely need to thin my vintage herd some because I'm running out of room to store them. I've found myself wearing Art's hats a lot more than I do some of my vintage hats. I think that might be my New Year's Resolution. I'm going to go through all of them and send some to Art for...
VS Lightweight Silverbelly
Below is my most recent hat from Art. I just received it yesterday and it got plenty of head time on Christmas Eve. It is a combination of the features I like most about a Stetson Open Road and a Stetson Playboy. The felt is lightweight Silverbelly with vent holes and...
I want to say this is a cap Johnny made for me and the craftsmanship is wonderful. The material also looks like an exact match for what Baron just posted. This is the second cap I have from Johnny with the other one being a lightweight linen cap. I asked for the dimensions to be slightly smaller...
Does anybody know where you can buy the tape that some hat companies use to connect the end of a sweatband instead of sewing it together? I looked at Hat Supply's website and didn't see any. I thought it might be useful in repairing a sweatband that has a minor tear in it. Thanks.
Jared,
I bought a hat last year that was a size too big for me and the sweatband was worn out too. So I removed the old sweatband then sprayed the entire hat with distilled water, made sure the water was absorbed thoroughly over the entire hat so it would uniformly shrink, then put it on my...
Hoyt,
I actually wanted a silverbelly or a caribou because I have quite a few fawn colored Akubras but they were out of them. I'm very pleased with it though. I might tighten the front pinch a little but other than that I'm going to leave it like it is. It is definitely not near as stiff as a...
Biltmore Pinch Hat
I received my Fawn colored Biltmore Pinch Hat and below are a few pictures of it right out of the box. The tag states it is a Wilderness but it has the peach colored Silver Buckle liner. It also has a stamp on the back of the leather sweatband that reads July 2002. The felt...
Thanks for the info. That must be the same ribbon Art used for the bow on mine. It is a deep maroon or burgundy and pulls the black cherry color out of the felt nicely. Jason's black cherry Whippet clone posted a few pages back looks like it has a similar color ribbon but wider.
Great looking hats Tim!
TomS, I like the dark pewter too. If it is the same granite color as Art Fawcett's then I think a pewter color would look great with it.
Perry, it is not even close. Art's lightweight felt reminds me of some of my old Borsalinos. Very soft and pliable. The new production Stetson Open Road is very stiff with a lot of shellac. They aren't bad though if you are ok with the crown. If you are not, I think it would be almost impossible...
Black Cherry vs Black Stetson
Here is an indoor shot of my VS Black Cherry (on the left) next to a new production black Stetson Open Road. The brim lengths look noticeable different but they really aren't. The VS is just a tad short of 2 3/4" and the Stetson is 2 3/4" on the nose. It looks like...
The Black Cherry would be a good choice then. It changes color depending on the lighting situation. Under low lighting it looks like a black hat and under bright lighting or outdoors you can really see the cherry tint. The maroon in the ribbon helps bring it out too. I have a leather aviator...
