Randall,
That is very cool. Where did you find that?
I remember reading years ago how new light bulbs were junk and actually manufactured to last only a short time so they would have to be replaced. The old bulbs were built to last. There is a Thomas Edison bulb in a Fire Station in California...
No problem and I understand. It was pretty easy to do though. I have done it on several other hats too. I purchased one of those small vintage traveling irons off of EBay and it works great for hats. Just keep it on a low setting.
job,
After reading your post yesterday I got my Borso out and decided to try and do something about the excessive curl to the brim. I lightly sprayed it with water and with low heat ironed it as flat as I could get it. It still has a slight curl too it but now when I snap it down it is...
I remember reading somewhere that if there is a red two digit number on a union label it is the date of manufacture. Is there any truth to that?
Edit: I just noticed a red 73 on a 1930's hat in this thread. I guess the answer to my question is no. Sorry, I should have looked closer at the...
job,
Nice comparison. I have the exact same two hats and agree with everything you posted.
I have two complaints about the Borso. Like you mentioned, when you snap the front brim down it is too low. My other complaint is I don't like the metal clip that holds the wind trolley button on. The...
Thanks. So Tardan doesn't refer to any particular felt like beaver?
Here is the reason I'm asking. I just bought the hat below but haven't received it yet...
That's why that Preston Hat looks familiar. I have a Bradford Open Road clone with an almost identical liner except mine says Bradford Hats where that one says Preston Hats. I'll get it out later and take some pictures.
I don't know anything about Preston Hats but that is a nice looking hat. Looks like it has a San Antonio, Texas address in it. If it has any other San Antonio info in it let me know and I'll do a little asking around.
Yes, I think that is the address (124 Obregon Ave, Nogales). The Tardan Fur is what has me puzzled. Maybe it is beaver but I don't come up with any translation when I try different translators on the internet.
Dorsay Hats Tardan Fur Felt
Anybody know anything about Mexican hats, specifically Dorsay hats? If so, I'd be interested in hearing what you know about this hat. I just bought this Dorsay Hat with tardan fur felt on a whim. It looked like an interesting hat in the pictures so I took a chance on...
I was watching that 7 1/2 Stratoliner too but didn't bid on it because it looked a little worn out in the pictures. I also think it probably should have had a liner. If it was one that didn't come with a liner it would have had the logo on the inside of the crown. I could be wrong about that though.
Art, that's great news about the new felts. Your beaver felts are the very best there is but rabbit felt makes for a very tough and durable hat. At least that has been my experience with my Akubra Campdrafts. I can't wait to see what you can do with a rabbit felt body. I'm sure there is one in...
Thanks. It is a great hat. If you leave the brim up all the way around it reminds me a lot of an older Open Road with a little wider brim. The brim I think is around 3 1/2" but appears shorter because of the semi-pencil roll. I've actually been thinking of buying another one and leaving the brim...
