pauleway, I hope we get to see some fit pics, as I like the look of that one.
Luckily Aero's waiting list is so long it means no impulse buys, or I would probably have had that already.
Nice looking belt. A simple classic style that will go with almost anything. I have two from Equus and can't fault the stiffness of the leather or the quality of the work.
As for fit, Equus reckon correct is the fourth of the seven holes, so you can judge the correct size for the next one from...
I gather Aero's bags are sourced externally, so probably not. Production at Gala Towers is so intense they're not able to divert machinists from jackets or the outrageous wait time would get even more crazy.
You could maybe try other small manufacturers, although getting cordovan might not be...
Sorry to moan, but I've been having problems for days now on IOS 6 (ipad) and Android 4.3 (Nexus 4 and 7). I more often than not get the black version instead of lightweight, which is painful on a small screen. It even seems to change from one page to another.
31" is pretty standard for that jacket. It just depends how far down you're comfortable with. I'm 5' 11" and am happy with a 30" length, but everyone's different.
Looks fine, if you like the style, which I do.
I don't believe the chest measurement though. I'd expect that to be 22 or even 23. I have two 38" Stockmans, which are very similar.
You're right, it does seem quiet. I've been watching the Gustin thing with interest, as I fell for the buying frenzy as well and now amn't quite so confident.
My next jacket's not until December, but in the meantime I've been frittering money on another waistcoat, leather bags and shoes...
To close this off, I had a very pleasant time browsing through Walker Slater in Edinburgh. It's a very "traditional" style, nicely old-fashioned shop with a pretty huge range, if you like tweeds, woollens, and country-style clothing and accessories. The staff were also very knowledgeable and...
The £50 charge for the strip was definitely there to discourage buyers, as even the ancien regime didn't believe it was necessary and felt it was too disruptive to production. Despite that it seemed to be quite popular.
Thanks Hal. We had a look in there for my wife a while back but the branch we were in seemed pretty low quality, so we quickly came back out.
Looking at the site, though, there's a lot more than could ever be in that shop, so I'll have a look at another branch.
Of the 4 places mentioned...
Thanks both. I suppose the more expensive one, being from a shop on the mainland, also includes a middleman's mark-up.
I also like the options with that one, but you soon end up at £155.
I like the idea of buying direct from the islands, but I like the idea of getting it right first time...
I'm new to the world of Harris Tweed, so can anyone please tell me if they think that there's likely to be a difference in the quality of these two? The prices are significantly different, but I'm not sure why

The thing I could never get my head around about "old" Aero was the apparent business model. The prices were already very reasonable, yet you could have pretty much any alteration you could dream up, all for no extra cost. It seemed to be a point of pride not to have a standard jacket.
That...
Too bad Boyo. I'm tempted by the shirts too, but don't fancy buying it as a present either.
What measurements are you, what did Gustin say it would be and what was it in the flesh?
