I have the lined Derby's and the IRs and would have to say the Derby's are a much more solid boot.
Don't know where you're based, but I thought the Derby's were about £50 cheaper in the UK. I liked them so much I ordered a second pair.
I have a couple of things ordered, but my rule of thumb was always to allow about 30% and you wouldn't be far off.
The new grey/blacks look interesting.
The guy does it all himself and has his workshop in Edinburgh, if you're passing.
I changed my order to a large satchel and also ordered a bespoke man-bag thing, as it looks rock solid. I'm flogging two overpriced Belstaff bags to offset the pain.
I had an Alpha, which I liked and wore a lot because of it's toughness and all the pockets. The downside was it soaked up rain like a sponge and the pocket lining wore through because of coins. They're probably all like that though.
I also had a Ralph Lauren clone which was as delicate as a...
Don't suppose you saw the kilted three-machete juggler doing a striptease whilst balancing on top of a 10 foot ladder in the Royal Mile? There was the biggest ever street crowd watching him, absolutely hundreds. :eeek::eusa_clap
Happy to say I've been wearing leather all week. Sloan, you're obviously based in the tropical part of the country if you've just been sitting looking at it. :) Move 40 miles east and get your kit on.
I came across the http://www.mackenziebags.co.uk/index.html stall at the Edinburgh Festival today. This was interesting to me as I was aware that their briefcases had good reviews on other style forums but I'd never seen one in the flesh.
I had been tempted to buy one of their Officer's...
Hi Mark. I'm an agnostic on selvedge too, but you can get them for the same price as regular high street ones through the likes of Freddie's and Gustin.
I've gone down that route, as I'd rather support small businesses than the sweat shop majors.
Interesting video. It's always good to see this sort of stuff.
Butte, wasn't it you who showed the Horween video? Any more gems up your sleeve?
I’ve been using an equivalent of the Simple Wallet for years now and find them ideal for not bulking out leather jackets.
Now it's dry, here's some fit pics. The first two compare the new black one with the 7 month old cordovan. Please excuse the frozen face, but I did all this on my own for the first time :)
Didn't know that, but I did think Aero's boots were suspiciously similar, to the point that I thought Lennon might be their supplier.
FWIW, I paid £200 for a pair of Grensons which were a 100% match for Aero cordovan, but the leather was unlined and is wrinkling to the extent that I'm not even...
The comments here have made me realise how little black we actually see on the Lounge, as most of the lurrvve goes to various shades of brown, with an occasional dash of cordovan.
As for the lining, as I was at Aero just before production, Denny kindly showed me what linings were available...
Thanks for all the kind comments. I'm actually surprised at so many positive vibes, as I know that the Stockman is almost anti-style in terms of design and dare I say old-fashioned and boring compared to almost everything else on offer.
You're right, winterland. My first Aero was an LHB and...
Edward, they do a Burgundy Full Grain, which from the small sample I have seems to be midway between my cordovan and battered brown, so I've ordered the same boot in that colour to cover both hides for the price of one. Like the title says, it’s a very grainy hide, nothing like the smooth one...
Tadlite, batterered brown actually looks nicer in the flesh than in the photos. It has a more worn and varied look than comes across here. It's not as light as the now recommended lighter steerhide, but I can't get over my aversion to steer after the whole storse fiasco last year (not that I'm...
Let me know what they say, please. I like what simonc's done with his soles, so I think that might be better than what Lennon propose, from what he said.
Thanks again guys. Fanch, the fit is identical with my cordovan one. I was very happy with the first one, but know how the same size can have minor differences in measurements depending on the machinist and leather. As I live so close, I was able to take the first one down to Aero the week...
Thanks guys. jla, I've just compared the Shackleton armholes with the other jackets and they're not noticeably smaller or higher. The jumper I'm wearing in my Shackleton thread is as thick as you'd get and there's no constriction in the armholes. Unless you're a bodybuilder I wouldn't worry...
