whilst digging through the dreck on *bay, I came up with:
co. name: "All Brands"- Jiffy J-4000H Proline Commercial Hat Steamer-
B.I.N. $169.00; listed under Home&Garden>steamers.
has the item #220198027179- I have absolutely nothing to do with them or their agents, etc, etc. But do have eyes...
A number of years ago my hatter friend sold me a vintage stretcher for
my 7 3/8 hats- the size of the stretcher was 6 3/4. That's all...been working
fine ever since.
JT- that room looks GREAT!! could you furnish us with a few shots, giving the vast collection it's day in the limelight? I for one would love to see a bunch of your hats-you've got a mighty keen eye, so I'd expect a treat!
and back to original ? about managing a collection- I've come up with...
Bud's got a good one, looks newer; Jiffy made a tabletop steamer, came with a gallon plastic jug to fill steamer and hold excess water, has a brass pipe about 1/2-3/4" in dia. that the steam comes out, at a 45degree angle to you.
Really throws out a lot of steam, have to be carefull to to get...
Here's an idea- for the Western look, why not try some of that ribbon
as a dress tie-Western-style, with the two ends hanging down, after a
sort of bow at the neck...could get some great contrast/complimentary
color going with a hat...
hmmmm......anybody got any photos of such a thing??
good eyes! a lot of people confuse the other Stetson silver box with the true
Stratoliner box, and will swear up and down they go together- thanks for the
proof of the plane on the box- and what I wouldn't give for a light grey Strat
with the pin....
c'mon everyone-the coolest thing a cat could wear back in the day
was a black beret...and black turtleneck, shades were NOT optional, and
mumbling was the mode of communication; any hep-cat that didn't wear
a beret was wearing a stingy-brim; no base-a-ball caps; dig?
I might be interested enough-depends on how we'd ship it up to Mass.-
any ideas? and got to figure in the cost- been a lot of years since I've
had to ship furniture, fortunately...could you please PM me?
thanks m
On that Resistol Ten... I happened into the same kind of situation last week;
bid on a hat that was advertised as a Stetson; the seller (after taking my money) wrote to say that the hat was indeed a Resistol, not a Stetson...
a Resistol 50, as printed on the logo on the liner. I take a 7 3/8...
welcome to the Lounge! nicer hat than I first thought...try it with a
nice Black Turtleneck, dress it up a bit. You're lucky, have a handsome
face, will be able to get away with a lot of things we can't...try a bit
wider brim and more neutral color if possible, it'll give you a "blank...
about 14 different hats. cleaning out the hat collection. my head's shrunk. and the hats are mating. majority of hats seem to be Open Roads. count 5 on the floor, know there's another few under the desk. wanna buy a hat?[huh]
Not sure about pricing dictating the year on Whippets, but know that the brim width has a lot to do with the age of the hat-2 5/8 seems to be the desired width, and 2 1/2" the more common. Only know that through selling a couple of Whippets, one to a fellow Lounge member who knows his stuff.
Move over in that boat. Can't manage to swing with Mr. DeepPockets when
it comes to a simple hat. I'm afraid that we might not see any hats at all-
they'll all go on to eBay, and unless we either get lucky or foolish, the prices on deadstock hats will be too high. Mingo- wanna split a hat??
