Thanks Fed! It is indeed a gem!
Thanks Ant. I swear if I was blindfolded in a room with all my other hats , I would be able to find this one just by the feel of the felt. Incredibly soft.
Maybe I will try that.... gives me an excuse to touch my hats! haha
1940's Caxton Twelve Fifty. Probably the nicest felt of any hat I own. Amazing quality of workmanship in this one. Colors of felt and ribbon are superb.
It might have been foxxing. Rust color is a good description. My hat was covered with it. I thought for sure it wouldn't come out. Felt is a pretty resilient material!
One of my "Flagships" had those orange spots on it. I think it's a form of mold? Foxxing they call it on old books. Came off the felt easily . Yours may have been something else though.
I paid a little less than a Franklin for this one! Not a bad price in todays $$
Thanks , Jim! Oh to be able to time travel and do a little hat shopping!
This one had a small dark cigarette burn looking stain on the front of the crown in pictures. I took a chance that it would come out....it did! With a little scrubbing. I'm with you on the liners. I have a couple hats that the liners looks factory fresh.... amazing that they survive all...
