John, that is interesting. I just always assumed it was referring to the sweatband. I'll have to get out my older Resistols and take a closer look. I'm pretty sure they all have "Self Conforming" on the sweatband but I'm not sure about "Melorol".
Rogera,
That is a beautiful old Stetson! The Open Road is interesting too. It appears somebody put a newer liner and sweatband in an older hat. The felt looks so soft that I bet it will be a very comfortable hat.
Like others have already stated, I think I would be hesitant to try and clean up...
Great looking Resistol John!
Lounge member Caramel Smoothie can probably help you identify the lady's hat. That one looks like something she might be familiar with. May be a little new for her though. She mainly collects 20's era lady's hats.
Kirk, great looking revolvers!
Levallois, beautiful old Colts!
Mike, great looking Commander! Everything appears to be all original except for the sights. I don't think that rear sight dovetail has been milled out so it shouldn't be too difficult to put some original sights back on it...if...
John,
You did stitch the liner to the reed strip in a couple of places. You can see one stitch in the photo below. Works great at holding the liner in place.
Beautiful outfit, Alan. I love that belt!
I have a quick question for the experts. I have an old bolo tie made of silver, turquoise and leather. The maker's mark on it is "E. Belone, Sterling". It has been in the drawer for quite awhile and the silver is a little tarnished. What is the best...
John installed a sweatband in an Atwood straw hat for me. He is a very nice guy and a talented hatter.
Here are a couple of pics of the sweatband.
This hat has a low Cattleman's Crease in it and the crown touches the top of my head. I had loosely placed a generic satin liner in it...
Congratulations Major! The fedora you made is beautiful. That is one of my favorite styles of hats, an Open Road in a diamond crease. Can't wait to see the others.
I'm curious about the inside of the hats. Are they concerned at all about the liners or sweatbands? I remember watching a movie...
Lt.hats, that kid has a good eye for hats. If you were wearing the hat in your avatar, it does look a lot like Perry's hat! It is a nice looking hat too.
This ruler and the other ruler that John posted show a size 7 1/2 to be 23 3/4". That seems very large to me. Hat companies today usually list a 7 1/2 to be 23 1/2". I know that sizes very slightly between manufacturers but 1/4" is a huge difference in a hat. I'm only referencing the measurement...
