Tom, Nick Nolte played a Texas Ranger in a movie called "Extreme Prejudice". That is the only time I have seen an actor playing a modern day Ranger that was dressed properly. The reason Nolte got it right is Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson helped him with the outfit. He even had the correct belt...
Yep!
The first time I watched "Walker: Texas Ranger" I only watched a few seconds. When Chuck Norris came out wearing a black hat I changed channels. I decided if they can't get that little detail correct then the rest of the show can't be worth watching.
This doesn't have anything to do with fedoras but the Texas Ranger dress code requires them to wear a light colored western hat. Black hats are not allowed!
Charlie, I found out about this when one of them stopped me at the courthouse to ask about the hat I was wearing. I was wearing one of Art's hats. Quite a noticeable difference between his Dobbs and one of Art's lightweights!
Here is an article and video I thought everybody might find interesting. The San Antonio Police Department Homicide Unit is now wearing fedoras. From now on it is going to be a tradition and once a new detective solves their first case they will receive a fedora...
I have one of LBJ's Resistol hats and it is a "Wide Country 3X Beaver". This is apparently the hat described in the Resistol ad that Rick posted. Same dimensions as a Resistol San Antonio or a Stetson Open Road. Here are a few pics.
Looks like you did a very nice job on the sweatband. The liner looks like the one Shudde used in the late 50's and early 60's. They did a lot of refurbishing for Stetson. If it is a refurb the original sweatband you removed will have "RENSH" stamped on the back of it. Can you take a picture...
I'm betting on a Whippet. Looks like a clone to Douglas' hat in the first post of the Stetson Whippet thread.

Rick,
That is a very cool hat! Doesn't get much more Texan than that. A "Rotocycle" was a brush hog made in Waco. A "Maverick" was an unbranded cow named for Texas lawyer Samuel Maverick who refused to brand his cows. Here is Maverick's Wikipedia page...
Rick,
I have a Pilgrim Open Road style hat from Sears with the same type of size tag. I think I mistakenly identified that size tag as an Adams hat in another thread when you asked. I believe Lee Hats made them for Sears. Sorry about the confusion. I could have sworn that at one time I had an...
Alan, you are welcome. The livestock show and rodeo is a very big event here that lasts three weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if there were other hat cleaning stations on the rodeo grounds. I'm only familiar with this one gentleman though. I would imagine he does quite well during the three week...
Rick,
One of the first men I worked for after college was an older gentleman from the WWII generation. He had a Stetson 100 that he wore but he would use the Stetson case as a suitcase when we would travel. Based on the airline baggage tags on yours it looks like Harry may have done the same thing.
