Looks like a Himel Kensington in many ways, especially with the double stitching along the main zip and chest pockets, and the gussetless sleeve zips.
I have read that the earliest J100s used double stitching in the same areas, so perhaps Gary, like the Himel boys, patterned the jacket after...
PN - thanks for the review. They sound promising. Is the Kevlar where the green panels are in your pics? If so, that's probably how they kept the price down -- not fully lined in Kevlar. The upside is that if they aren't fully lined, they'll be cooler on the bike.
Leather blazer? Never acceptable. Ever.
Outerwear for use to and from the office? Many options, as others have started to note. But still have to be careful.
I've seen many of your fit pics of various café racers you've picked up. Indeed, I'll always open a thread where I've seen you post, because you have had so many jackets in the last year or two and often times we share a similar taste.
I'm a brutally honest guy, so I'll just spit this out...
Man, riding pants that aren't ugly are a rare breed. I've got a pair of Ugly Bros. motorpools that look good and have armor in the hips and knees, but they are simply denim with no Kevlar. I have a pair of Aether compass pants which are nice, but they run crazy long and I spent too much...
^ True. Good point. But I still think that the Highwayman is a tough style for most of us to pull off well. I've tried, and certainly had zero success.
Thank you for the honest comment. Technically speaking, I think you are absolutely right. But most often (90 plus percent of the time) I wear my leathers casually, and casual for me means going untucked a good deal of the time. With a bit longer length, my untucked shirts fall just above the...
Yep. Take a look at eBay right now. I bet more than 50% of the Aeros for sale are Highwayman...and its always like that. They just don't work for many people. But you sir...it doesn't get any better than that fit for that style of jacket.
Well, I'm not sure that's exactly what we're seeing. My 40L measures only a half an inch longer in the body than a 40R. Mine measures 24.5" -- the regular is spec'd at 24".
I primarily went with the long because I needed more sleeve length - the long gave me 1.25" extra (actual measurement)...
Exactly. Seriously, the sleeves are fantastic. They are quite slim without being too tight, and visually appear to have a nearly constant diameter all the way up, although they do not. I detest sleeves that have too large a diameter -- just looks sloppy. The sleeves are perfection, at least...
Thanks everyone.
Nice that just about everyone agrees on the same issues -- handwarmer pocket location and belt height -- they're the issues I noticed when I first slipped it on and took that all-important first look in the mirror. Someone mentioned that they thought the chest pocket was too...
Terry - your pics/vids of the Californian is one of these reasons I picked one up. Thanks for posting up those resources. Sadly, I don't think the hide on this one will approach the character yours has, but who knows.
Despite a closet full of them, I've had an extremely tough time acquiring a...
