Thanks for the comments so far. Keep 'em coming.
Yes, its an ELMC Californian. Honestly, I would prefer the belt a touch lower, and the handwarmer pockets are stupidly high -- I have to hunch my shoulders and contort my arms to get my hands in. Silly. But I never use handwarmer pockets, so...
Got a new jacket in the mail, and was hoping for some feedback from you fine folks. PLEASE do NOT pull any punches -- tell me what you honestly think. No sugar-coating.
Seriously, just grow a pair and break the thing in. You'll learn after your 4th or 5th or 6th jacket that the hardest thing about leather is finding a great fit. That jacket you have there is a great fit. It is worth the effort to tame it.
SOLD. Thanks, Mat.
$575 shipped CONUS, via Paypal gift.
Aero Cafe' Racer in size 38 -- please see measurements below. It's made with Full Grain Chromexcel Steerhide, and lined with a Lochcarron lightweight wool tartan (the tartan pattern is called Tweedside). This jacket was constructed in...
Thanks for your input, everyone.
I'm leaning toward Thedi at this point. I'll contact them shortly and see what the process looks like.
Anyone know what their hides look like? Weight? how they are finished and tanned? Etc...?
I walked my ass all the way up to SoHo (from the girlfriend's apt near the Battery) two weekends ago to check out the RMC store...needless to say, I didn't buy anything!
SOLD. Thanks, Gregor.
Up for sale is a Diamond Dave (Diamond Clothing Co.) Buco J100 in 3 oz veg.-tanned Horween horsehide. This was based on a size 40, with some tweaks.
The jacket is beautiful. Phenomenal grain, soft and supple leather, but still very substantial -- heavier than Aero...
You cannot specify a change in the chest or shoulder measurements on an Aero. Theoretically, all, say, size 40 Aeros of the same pattern should measure exactly the same across chest and shoulders. But they don't, and it sounds like your experience is the same as mine.
With respect to Schott- they don't do custom sizing anymore. Back when I owned one, I wore it two sizes too big so the sleeves were long enough. I've grown a bit more discerning these days, and expect my jackets to fit both in the sleeves, and elsewhere.
Wrong.
The Diamond Dave was custom. I just didn't like the large diameter of the arms.
The Aeros were semi custom, meaning I picked a pre set chest size, and then altered back length, sleeve length, and torso diameter. The two size 38s varied widely in measurements, despite the fact that the...
Thanks everyone. Some thoughts:
Schott - Looked at Schott a few times in the last 5 years or so, and even owned one about 15 years ago. Honestly, I've been spoiled by higher quality leather, and can't go back to Schott.
Vanson - Funny thing, I own 2 Vanson waxed cotton jackets, but no...
I have or have had a number of cafe racers, and haven't found "the one." I have jackets I ride in, but I'm looking for something currently that will only be casual wear. For reference:
Aero Sonoma racer - too large in the upper back, don't like the way the shoulder gussets make the upper back...
