I cannot really either, but cannot explain that unique sweat and the utter softness of the body. The crown dents with but the slightest touch........one thing for sure....I will not be the one to try rolling it!;)

Here is a Churchill "Town and Country" apparently made exclusively for the Chicago upperclass men's store Capper & Capper. Came in it's origional box. Very nice thin soft mid-grey felt. Unlined and with a very unique sweat. The backside of this fabric sweat is a thin leather!!! I imagine this...
Here is an early-mid 70's Bradford (at this point Resistol). Quite the sweep to the brim sides......nice silverbelly......brim is quite stiff.....crown much softer. Dimensions are: 5 1/2 inch open crown (front 5" as bashed), 4 inch brim, nice 6 cord ribbon. I love the liner......No wear at...
Here is another "Auctioneer" I picked up.....custom made (liner)..still do not know who made these......could be Dobbs or Champ (I have seen others of these with a brand liner, just cannot remember which brand). This one apears to be early 60's. Felt is really nice and not at all stiff, and...
Nice hat, BUT NEEDS TO BE IN ANOTHER THREAD......it is NOT an Open Road clone....this thread is for Open Road style ( thin ribbon, matching bound edge brim) hats made by other companies than Stetson......
M;)
Here is an example made by Brent.
Thats what happens with "sight unseen" Would be described as "unworn, near mint" on EBay and priced at $300 on Etsy.;) Oh yes includes RARE decorative feather!:)

Every few days (generally on a Wednesday or Thursday) my wife notes that my face looks dirty......it is then that I realize that i have not shaved since Sunday...:rolleyes:
I am very Norman English......cannot really grow any sort of cool beard or mustache :( but then it is nice sometimes...
1950.......the Stetson Musketeer.....not sure I have heard of this one.....way cool two color ribbon.....and look at the narrow bound brim WITH three additional rows of stitching.....WoW.....now I really really want one of these!!;)

Mojave and Sahara seem to fit. Mojave being the grey side and Sahara on the brown. Hard to tell but Mojave in real life could end up being almost too light...but then who knows....often felts will photograph much lighter than they actually are.
And as you say the colors can be quite different...
Your examples are all over the board and I see many examples do not even equate well with others of the same name. However the "Sahara" and "Dove" seem somewhat consistent and would fall in this category of Taupe.....and would be very versatile colors.

At least on my monitor anyway...;)
EDIT...
As others said....difficult but not impossible...with patience and time you WILL find one and often it will be cheaper than a new one that would not be half as nice...........vintage homburgs still do not command the prices of vintage fedoras.;)

Ok, here is my Stetson 3X that I threatened to crease fore and aft like bamaboots did on one of his (though I understand he reverted back to a cattleman). I am pleased with the results..........mine is staying!;)
More on this hat here...
Ok, here is another of mine. This came with the box shown......3 inch brim, 6+ inch crown thin ribbon......very thin.......not sure of the model name. I am guessing right about 1959-1960. Still has that beautiful embroidered "Last Drop" liner, a 2 inch sweat....but re-introduces the standing...
