    The less cool checkerboard one they switched to in the 50s! (For that matter, it could be late 50s but not likely earlier because the earlier Schott/Beck jackets I've seen in photos have all had diamond pulls instead of ring pulls.)

    They weren't designed to flake in two wears. It's not just the 2"; the jacket is awkwardly cropped and has the wrong number of buttons; the button layout is kind of important. If I got to a tailor for a 3-button suit and he gives me two buttons, something got messed up. "Past" business...
