Also I want to add that shipping the jacket back to Schott would not cost $40.
I mailed a jacket to them for modification and it cost $15; yes, I am only a few hours away, but I also mailed one that I picked up for a friend across the US, and that also cost $15 to ship.
Terry, that's one of the best I've seen.
@jeo I meant to add that I spoke to John Chapman about these Beck-Schott Perfectos a couple of weeks ago (because he has one for sale) and he said he was really impressed by the way the jackets are constructed. I found it interesting that he thought it...
I think the button/design thing is more significant than their measurements goof (which is already pretty bad; Aero has a .5" tolerance for CXL). They essentially delivered him a different type of jacket. I don't think that's histrionic, considering the reason people order a B-7 or an A-2 or...
The thing is, no matter what kinds of measurement changes they decided they had to do despite the customer openly saying he did not want them, they actually changed the spec of the coat.
That is pretty significant. The amount of buttons on a coat like this aren’t analogous to zipper length...
Jacket’s in the closet but I do have French seams. I’ll take a look and make a full reply in the morning!
EDIT: Also I’m pretty sure that first pic is of one of the listings for my jacket, @jeo. The seller had listed it a few times over the years.
The less cool checkerboard one they switched to in the 50s! (For that matter, it could be late 50s but not likely earlier because the earlier Schott/Beck jackets I've seen in photos have all had diamond pulls instead of ring pulls.)
The jacket I linked is being phased out and they usually do that by dropping the price and limiting new production to what's specifically backordered. Meanwhile, other jackets keep their old prices or even go up according to the increased costs these days. The jackets in this stage are amazing...
Sorry for getting harsh there; I got kind of annoyed by the repeated "how dare OP do this to a business?" thing when TFL is full of people who made posts after companies in the leather biz screwed them in some way. I think it's the closest thing we offer to a 'service'. There are people who...
They weren't designed to flake in two wears.
It's not just the 2"; the jacket is awkwardly cropped and has the wrong number of buttons; the button layout is kind of important. If I got to a tailor for a 3-button suit and he gives me two buttons, something got messed up.
"Past" business...
