We should have invited David Bowie here before he passed.
From the photo shoot for Heroes, he not only has his early Aero but a well-worn civilian flight jacket and a B-15.
The Schott 673, managed to find the name via an old sales post here!
And it's not discontinued yet but it is discounted!
I nearly bought this myself when I saw it at their factory and I don't even usually like cafe racers.
I second Canuck's suggestion to buy a stock jacket first.
Schott had this really beautiful collared cafe racer with a pull-up brown leather that reminded me of Vanson Octagon; they discontinued it last year so it had gone into heavy discount. I'm trying to remember the name so I can link it...
Well, obviously. Why would he complain before attempting to go through the process that any other company would honor?
Same thing could be put on any of the other members who had this experience.
Yeah I don’t see the point of white knighting SB here.
When people have leather jacket queries or concerns, they make an account here. We shouldn’t be upset about it.
And frankly it’s a bit ridiculous to see concern trolling over Simmons Bilt as a ‘small business’ when they are backed by a...
He phrased it weirdly; he meant he was offered a choice between them returning it to him or listing it as a consignment item on their sale page so he gets the discounted sale price when someone buys it.
I.e. he meant ‘return’ literally as opposed to refunding him.
Forgot to add this earlier.
I think you should actually fight this.
They claimed Pandemic’s obviously faulty jacket was correct even though it looked like a garbage bag.
But eventually they got pressured into refunding, because of the forum thread here, though they still insisted it's...
No one should ever buy a shearling from SB.
Even leaving aside the ethical issues of dealing with them and even the lack of QC, when they stole their patterns from Aero, the shearling ones in particular were actually WIP.
In practical terms, this means their shearlings have mistakes like the...
H&L Block wasn’t the only one patterned on an original though; there were other options. I wasn’t trying to steer you to H&L Block, just away from something patterned by Five Star.
Hopefully this is also based on something real and not one of the “TFL member sends a photo” jackets!
No break in with goatskin, though it is substantial in hand. (Many assume it‘ll be very delicate.) Jerky will have beautiful drape too; it feels very much like actual midcentury horsehide to me.
Between the two I’d go Jerky for this jacket.
These are really robustly stitched so I wouldn’t worry about it!
Go with black Jerky horsehide if you want it to be a rich black jacket that wears through at points to a brown core, the way most 1930s-50s examples did; go for goatskin if you want a dyed-through black with a luxurious drape from...
I think the Indian Ranger without epaulettes would be a very bad idea. Some imbalanced soul online bought one and cut them off, lol. Looked awful.
In any case, because the Indian Ranger is an exact replica of the 1947 model, they don’t allow changes to its details–the hide counts as one of...
Fair enough, I did say it's "not done on sleeves", but what I meant by that is that it's not a normal part of constructing sleeves. Of course, brands will introduce all kinds of elements, but it's by no means a standard technique and if anything would be problematic because it wouldn't introduce...
Adding .75" to the shoulder and .25" to the sleeve is not going to hurt anybody, lol. If it's dead on you'll be constricted.
A principle of tailoring is that shoulders can equal shoulder measurement (only really on shirts) or exceed them.
Definitely not darting. It's not done on sleeves, even in textile. Do you mean additional panels?
Darts are just to take in a garment or introduce shape without altering the side, but it's never done to increase range of movement. It's not generally done on leather, or many other forms of...
I sized up like that because of the shoulders and the jacket ended up fitting perfectly. (I was concerned that it would feel too big otherwise.) When it comes to the really stiff hides like Chromexcel or the Schott horsehide, as they break in they fit closer and end up blanketing your body.
I...
