They have a way of adding sweat stains & trail dust/dirt to hats to make them look well-worn.
Some of the hatters that do Indy hats also apply dirt to get the hats to look exactly like certain scenes in the movies....

I have a 7X CB & a 100 of basically the same time period.
As talked about before, I'd stand that they are the same felt blanks with the 100 just being finished out by 1 master hatter while the 7X CB was done on the assembly line. At the core, they are so close to one...
I've used URAD black on black leather to cover up scuffs. The neutral cream does darken slightly a shade or 2, at least on the boots & jackets I've used it on.

Right, that is why most here, & because we like the "old style" hats, go with at least a 5 1/2" open crown.
Some of us large noggin Loungers go for 5 5/8" & 5 3/4" open crowns to have enough for the crease to use.
Modern HatCo fedoras, see modern HatCo Stetson Stratoliner, have a 5 1/4" crown...
