From what I recall of the prototype of the Strat40, as it was labeled, the felt body was spot on.
Lots of us held one at FedFest in Garland plus the one I got to evaluate (sure would like it back)....
It was issues with stitching in of the sweat, ribbon band placement & the bound edge...
I think your front & sides need to be a tad taller as you stated. You don't really want the inner dome to be taller than the sides of the crease, at least I don't...JMHO
I know the dye recipes are different, especially between Resistol & Stetson silverbelly. When they do the felt body runs in Longview, TX, they use the dyes from the particular acquisition/licensing agreement. Not sure about felt bodies being for different fur weight or mixtures...
HatCo has always been willing to do "runs" for hat shops for a committed number of hats. Randy's post about getting numerous hat shops to ask for an open crown model is a different issue (color selection & range of sizes).

We tried to work directly with Matt Range of HatCo on an Open Crown version of the Stratoliner & actually got a couple of prototypes for review. Matt has disappeared, along with that hat he promised to return. No replies to emails or phone calls.
We are not a blip on the HatCo meter for fedora...
