Wanna 1920s/'30s-style Newsboy Cap? Have One Made!

Out of interest, what is used in the peaks of caps as a stiffener? On the job lot of vintage caps I bought whatever was in the peaks has turned to powder? I'm guessing starched buckram was used? What would make it break down so much? Damp storage? Some sort of bug? Curious because the material...

Wanna 1920s/'30s-style Newsboy Cap? Have One Made!

One more for reference Last example from me for now, this is one of the pair of work caps. Very flimsy and lightweight. Sitting on a girder on a skyscraper construction site springs to mind...

    Vintage Sunglasses

After a bit of googling, some RAF sunglasses homework... http://www.britishblades.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1124897 "These are a pair of very rare 1970's RAF pilots issue sunglasses. In WW2 the Mk VIII glasses were standard issue, they looked very similar to the B&L 'Randolph' glasses used...

Wanna 1920s/'30s-style Newsboy Cap? Have One Made!

How'd I miss this thread? Just had a quick flick through at work, will have a proper read tonight! I bought a job lot of old Newsboy style caps of ebay a while ago, for about $60 if memory serves me correctly. I've posted them before but think they deserve to go in here. This one...

    British Airborne Red Beret! Vintage

The famous Red Beret. No military or date stamps, but everything about it shouts out 'vintage'. Not issue, a private purchase, so possibly an officers? Anyway, a very well made piece of kit. Made in England. I bought it at a militaria fair in Winchester about 1996, no provenance unfortunately...

    Cool (But Sold) eBay Stuff

Why is 6 7/8 a womans size? Being 6 7/8 myself, and (Last time I checked) not a woman, I find quite a few mens hats in small sizes, both civilian and military. I didn't think it was an unusual size for a mans cap...

Happy Birthday Kombi! 50 today, and doesn't it show...:D Pictures from a recent 'off the beaten track' winter rally in the Ardennes. The Kombi coped really well, the off road sections were great fun! Burned an exhaust valve out on the way home :eusa_doh:, but I've just...

1940s Goatskin Motorcycle Jacket - Canadian

Great jacket Baron! Inspired me to finally post some pics up of the one I got last October, which share some similar design features... http://thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?p=744354&posted=1#post744354

    Another '40's motorcycle jacket...

And the fit isn't bad, but it's not perfect... (Sorry about the photo, all I've got to hand) Ok in the Chest and arms, but the back is really short, resting on the top of my old style LEVI's. I'm guessing if I was a couple of inches shorter it would be perfect :eusa_doh: But overall...

    Another '40's motorcycle jacket...

And the Talon zip, very G-1 like! And as far as I can tell original to the jacket. And the breast pocket. Zip puller has U.S.A. on the back. The 1949 dime fell out of the liner... Main pocket detail. Button looks to be original. Back detail, scallop is very subtle.

    Another '40's motorcycle jacket...

Seeing the Baron's recent purchase reminded me I said I'd post photos of this jacket when I had a chance... Won on Ebay last October, I forget the price now but I think even with shipping to the UK it was well under £80. Detail of the bi-fold back and waist buckle Cuff detail
