A few more pics from Uncle Walter
I'm guessing these are all from the same outing?
Uncle Barry again, in his Denison, plus a couple of BD tunics.
Looks like Large Packs were the backpack of choice! Plus a nifty little knapsack on one young lady, looks similar to an ATS issue one...
From my Great Uncle Walters collection, somewhere in the Midlands, just after the '39-'45 war. Sorry I don't have a better scan to hand, I'll try and rectify that tonight.
A mixture of civilian and military clothing, a lot of slacks tucked into socks in a plus four style. The tall chap in...
I checked the measurements, and know there is a chance it could be a tad to small for me...(a 38, maybe a snug 40) I thought of you even before I placed the bid BK ;)
H, I will of course supply more info when I receive the jacket. Listing describes the main zip as a brass Talon. I have no...
Just scored this off ebay...
Vintage, and a small size, so I'm afraid not much help to anyone looking for a decent repro of this style. :(
I was surprised I won it though, as my bid was low, and reflected what I had in my paypal account from ebay selling, rather than what I thought it was...
Not really from a garage sale, more like a garage clearout! Driving though town to see my Nan at the weekend spotted this charming little fella by the side of the road. Out of curiosity pulled over to have a look, then drove on... Got to the end of the road and the the magpie in me made me...
Sorry Seimon, I wasn't in a position to doing any saving...:( The site is over an hour away and us and my boss was on a tight schedule. I didn't even get a chance to stick my nose inside.
I wonder how many are left undiscovered in peoples gardens? My guess is hundreds, if not thousands!
Here is one I saw after just being discovered, somewhat unceremoneously, yesterday, while doing a site visit in Haslemere, Surrey.
Looked like it has just been buried after the war...
Smart jacket!
My Great Uncle was stationed in Berlin in '45, and mentioned getting German tailors to add sleeves to jerkins. He said his tailor used an old blanket. Never heard of making totally new jackets out of the parts, but I'm not surprised.
Yep. Not sure for how long though... I was sat in it this morning waking up with a cup of tea and a good book, but it's plonked right in the middle of an already small room! Having to shuffle around it is obviously starting to get a bit tiresome! lol
Where abouts in Wales are you?
When...
No JD's in my family I'm afraid rgraham, although the likeness is spooky
Although if I went into his style of 'banking' think how many more jackets I could get... (where's a tommy gun weilding smiley when you need him!:eusa_doh: )
On a mildly interesting tangent, as we're talking...
Slightly off topic, but check out these guys down in Brighton -

Baron, I know exactly where you're coming from... Got a pair of these 10 years ago from a local tip, £5 each. Since then they've never really fitted in our little '20's terrace...
Faded, thread bare, and a few splits...
I love it to bits, but there is no longer any room for it in or humble abode...:(
Free to a good home. Anyone fancy a restoration project? If not it'll have to go to armchair heaven... :eusa_booh
Several of the learned posters on VLJ have mentioned a likeness to the Werber? Along with the Roughwear one of my favourite contracters. Might do a bit more research on them...
I come from a background of doing Second World War and Great War Living History, so since a teenager have always had a short back and sides. I'm 35 now so really getting too old for it, but it has lead on to a love of vintage clothes, and there's no age limit for being a civilian ;) Hair's...
