Guess the Jacket...

Very interesting jacket I picked up a few months back...Can anybody guess what it's made from??

One of those German coats... or a bunch of leather jerkins?

(I was just in Brussels last week and saw a few bales of Belgian jerkins at a fleamarket. I got the guy down to €10 per piece but that was still too much.)

Well done that man!.. it's made from a WW2 British leather Jerkin. It has German WW2 Buttons on it...:eusa_clap

That's a great jacket. I'd love to find something like that; looks like it'd be a comfortable cut, like an ike jacket

Yeah, it's really heavy leather. did you notice it has no buttons up the front, only on the waist band.

I wonder if it was made by a German tailor in post war Berlin in the style of an Ike of BD blouse??

That is a sweet jacket. When I saw the buttons I immediately thought German.

Short jackets like this are my favorite.

I was slightly in doubt as to which option was correct- the leather texture looks more like the German coat leather than the Jerkin leather from the pics(from here, at least). But now, understanding a little of Eyemo's interests, from reading his posts, I had a clue. I've seen in one of the British uniform books, Jerkins modified, with collars, leather sleeves and even sleeves from greatcoats. But those long, heavy German coats have been widely modified, to shorter jackets. But those buttonholes are totally Leather Jerkin style.

It's a cool jacket, indeed.

Smart jacket!

My Great Uncle was stationed in Berlin in '45, and mentioned getting German tailors to add sleeves to jerkins. He said his tailor used an old blanket. Never heard of making totally new jackets out of the parts, but I'm not surprised.
