Has anyone had experience with Wested Horsehide

Has anyone had experience with Wested Horsehide? I'm considering purchasing an Indy Temple of Doom jacket. I don’t need it to be film accurate since I plan to use it for daily wear in mild cold weather. I’m not a fan of distressed looks, except for the natural wear that comes with patina, so any pre-distressed options are off the table. I've done my research on horsehide and goatskin leather; both are resilient, but I don't want a jacket that’s too hot, especially since I only experience super cold winters for a couple of days a year. The average winter temperature here is around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. I know I might be a bit particular, but this seems like the right place to ask.

Why do you think goatskin would be warmer?
Because Wested said, it is "weight-wise in-between Lamb and Cow Hide," both HH and goatkin seem stronger and tend to maintain the unblemished look for longer (based on what others say). Also, not all HHs or goatskin are the same weight. Since Wested describes their HH as clothing grade, I would like to know the real experience beyond what the seller said.

You won’t find a warmth difference between any of these.

So, Is it pure aesthetic and weight only? By chance, do you have the HH? There are a lot of reviews on the lambskin and goatskin, but not at all on the HH.

Yes and even weight can be misleading. I would skip the horsehide honestly; if you want something more weatherproof than the lamb, go for the goat.

the leather rarely makes a difference in warmth (other than shearling of course).

The main thing that will make a difference is the lining- a wool lining will give more warmth than a cotton one

I agree with everyone else: leather isn't warm, it doesn't matter how thick it is or which hide. The type of lining and whether there are knits at the bottom/sleeves and a good closure at the throat are more important. (Not to mention what you're wearing underneath!) The Indy jacket in particular was never designed for cold weather, it's FILM WARDROBE and a three-season wearer at best.

I have no experience with current Wested Indy jackets - I have a lambskin Raiders I got over 20 years ago that I dearly love - but I suspect that their goatskin is better quality than their horsehide at their price point. Not to mention that goatskin is far more supple and usually requires zero break-in. Well... goatskin is my favorite jacket leather!

I have a Wested Raiders Jacket in Horse hide. It is very, very nice. From what I have researched horse hide may very well be thicker than other skins but believe it or not the "Breathability" is superior. So in warmer weather you would get more relief from sweating. I find it to be a better all year around jacket.
