    Nice one

That was over 2 years ago already  Time flies.... I was ready to wear it at the Goodwood Revival last year, but it was just too hot for a tweed suit. I think it should go to a better home now. Also I need some cash to keep the Kombi on the road...;) I think you may have first...

    Nice one

What a cracking suit! It's reminded me of the one in the back of my wardrobe, and the fact that I've still not worn it in the 4 years I've owned it... :eusa_doh: Maybe time to move it on...;)

Airborne Beret manufacturer and date help!

Cheers fellas. I wonder when in the '50's the berets starting to become more 'trim'? Were small berets just more practical? Did it just evolve that way? Did soldiers think they looked smarter? I'm thinking of footage I remember seeing as a kid of the Royal Marines in the Falklands War...

Airborne Beret manufacturer and date help!

Berets usually have some sort of clear cellophane sewn over the label or stamp. I'm not sure exactly why, I guess to stop grease marks from hair? I think that is what this is, it's just detiriorated over time.

Airborne Beret manufacturer and date help!

I picked this up many moons ago at a military fair. I didn't collect Airborne kit, but it was only a fiver! (I wore it for some of the photo shoots in the British Tommy book) I'd like to know more about the date and manufacturer, It's obviously old, but how old? And why are there no...

The GREAT BRITISH DUFFEL COAT thread

I may try that H, as the overlap, or lack of it, was my biggest grumble with the coat. After looking through some wartime photos though, the general look seems to be 'way too big'! So I may just put up with it. It's quite refreshing to get a jacket that is 'one size fits all', compared to the...

The GREAT BRITISH DUFFEL COAT thread

Duffle test drive... Thought I'd resurrect this thread. I was lucky enough to be given an old duffle coat last year, by a good friend whose father, I think, served in the Merchant Navy. As has been mentioned in this thread, it is a huge size, and this put me off ever wearing it. It got...

Remembering.... The lost letters home of a Great War airman

Cheers for the link Kilroy. Henry sums it all up perfectly in a few words - "I don't want to see them forgotten," Me and Dan knew as soon as we saw these letters they were important fragments of history. Nothing groundbreaking, but an insight into everyday life then that can easily get...

Remembering.... The lost letters home of a Great War airman

Cheers BT. Just posted first letter up! Gives a snapshot of life in the Officer Training Corps. He was in the Inns of Court OTC for just over a year, unfortunately this is the only letter we have from that period.

Remembering.... The lost letters home of a Great War airman

My work colleague Dan (I think Dan may be a fellow Lounger actually..) came in with an old tupperware tub full of crumbly old letters last year. They were passed on to him by his lodger, who thought he may find them interesting. They were rescued while roof work was being done on an old house...

    Seabiscuit jacket

It's here! And better than I expected! A few minor issues with the liner, that were in the description, but are easy fixes. Just need to restitch the armholes and find a couple of buttons. Leather is fantastic, great colour, grain and condition. And the fit is good. No time for decent photos...

    Uniforms in casual wear

Great thread! Most of my vintage wardrobe is military... (I love my French army boots! But they are tough... difficult to drive the kombi in them, as there is no ankle movement in them :eusa_doh: ) And a family photo of my great uncles friends on a hiking trip just after the War. Most...

    vintage zippers?

'repro' Talon zips? Could do with some advice here. I'm looking for a replacement zip for my fathers Cagleco G-1, about 23 1/2 inches long. I've found these on ebay... 320302146274 They don't look bad to me. They also do them in brass. My question is, which one of the above...

    Historic Hillwalking

I'd love to see your photos H.J! Redundant? Can you have too many period outdoors fun photographs? I don't think so! (Same goes for you Micawber, dig them out!) Although I visited Uncle Walter at the weekend, he had a full house so I didn't have the opportunity to grill him on...
