Just found this thread!
I can't really add any further useful info to this debate, but I was surprised to see how similar Bruce's jacket was to one I picked up in 2008.
I've no idea who the maker is but I thought it would be interested to compare the wear pattern...
While going through my old cycling mags found this illustration that was a close-ish match to BK's jacket -
From 1936
Also, After going through about a dozen pre war and post war cycling mags, I could find no decent reference for leather jackets being worn - in either adverts or...
1936 cyclist clothes...
Found this while looking for pictures of leather jackets for a thread on outerwear

More blouson style 'suedette' cycling jackets

In fact the whole site has some cracking shots showing club cycling in the '30's

Interesting there are no obviously leather jackets...
Here's the advert I was thinking of, out of a 1937 'The Cyclist' magazine. Interesting they mention 'suedette'... good match though!
And you can view it bigger here -

Good observation BK, now you mention it I'm not entirely sure either... And these jackets do look incredibly similar. If I get a chance tonight I'll dig out my old '30's / '40's cycling mags and have a shufti through the adverts in the back, I'll scan the clothing ones in as I think there are...
Another old family photo I've posted before. Before we get sidetracked with the embarrassment of riches for any army surplus junkie, check out the guy on the left wearing a similar jacket to my grandfather. A suede bomber jacket type affair again.
Photo is from a Youth Club cycling day out...
Grandad 'H Johnson'
My grandfather - Harry Johnson -
Unfortunately not a clear photograph, but this was from a cycling trip somewhere, (I think Stafford) just prewar, around '37. (Harry was born Nov '18)
He appears to be wearing a suede bomber type jacket, with elastic cuffs and I assume...
I tried earlier Van, but for some reason I can't get it to work for me, keeps saying conformation code incorrect [huh]
It may be I'm already registered under my home email, not work? Anyway, the forgot password link didn't like me either :eusa_doh: :D
TTT...
Just trying to log in to VLJ, but I've not been on there for ages and have forgotten my password :eusa_doh: Doesn't help I think it may have been on a discontinued work address as well...
Any help appreciated :D
Caught it on the local news in the week, made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end seeing them a speed  Awesome.
I was lucky to do a spot of filming as an extra on HMS Medusa in the late '90's. That was fantastic charging up and down Southampton Water :cool...
Right chaps, (and chapettes ;-) just looking for a bit of guidance here as I know a few of you have done this before.
I bought this jacket 18 months or so ago now, and love it! But it had several issues. The leather was great but the stitching was not, the bottom of the male part of the zip...
Picked this little book up several years ago now, but it has been hiding in a box since then. Thought it was about time I did something with it, so just scanned it in to share it. A charming little momento of Home Guard life.

I was given these last week
They belonged to a good friends grandfather, and I assume are from the '40's. He was in the Royal Navy during the war, working his way up through the ranks. Would be great if they could find a pic of him wearing them as well!
The fit a treat, but...
I'm pretty certain that is a British Army shirt Dinerman, used from the '30's through to the '40's. Very like an 'Other Ranks' in design and material, but collarless... I'm wondering if this may be an officers field shirt with the collar...
I have a very similar collarless Other Ranks...
