    Viberg Boots

I have exchanged a couple of email messages with Viberg. Next step is a phone call. One thing to keep in mind is that they have boots made in Canada (e.g., Work boots such as the Foreman) and boots which are "imported" (e.g., Stompers, such as the Jobsite, which I assume are made in China...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

That was a killer deal for a Dunlap 40. If it had been a 7 1/2 or even a 3/8 LO I would have gone much higher. I find I'm tiring of stretching 7 3/8 hat these days... That will be some incredible felt. And never mind the seller, look out for that buyer!

    Hat sizing: long oval?

R is for Regular oval. There were also Long Oval, Extra Long Oval, Wide Oval, and probably some other designations. I thought some modern factory cowboy hats were still made Long Oval? I have not had a lot of luck stretching regular oval hats to long simply by wearing them. Depends on...

    Viberg Boots

I will say this about the mystery surrounding Viberg boots- they appear to have very poor distribution. I know a place not far from where I live that carries Wesco. The selection of retailers for Viberg in all of California is pretty amazingly limited. The closest retailer to the San...

Aero idea - but it could never work

I think Aero is a business and it's not up to Aero's customers to show their goods. Optimo hats has a similar problem - pricey customizable clothing that one wants to touch and try on. They have many "trunk sales" every year, stopping off at fine men's clothing and hat shops around the...

    Oviatt's Trenchcoat

I bet it was meant to have the look of a buckle/loop, but be tied off casually, like a bathrobe. We've seen so many shots of overcoats from that period tied off like that. Stylin'. Congrats and enjoy!

The Best Custom Western Hat maker!!!

I would find this thread much more interesting if each person who expressed an opinion were to show a picture of a hat reflecting the qualities claimed. As it is, I have no way to compare one hat maker from another. Their web sites certainly aren't much help, since they're so slick and lack...

    Viberg Boots

I've been looking at Viberg, too. Look great. They also have some less rugged, every day shoe/boots that look great, such as their Redwood and Black Cat models. Appear to be less expensive (no Vibram sole), though I can't seem to find prices for Viberg products. I guess I'll have to...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Really interesting hat, Randy. Congrats. I have two Bee (felt) hats and they are good, solid hats. That one is a really interesting take on the cotton hat. I wonder if one can machine wash it and then form it like that again?

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

Wow, congrats. Wish I'd spotted that one! That is a perfect example of a hat that would have commanded a much higher price in the Classifieds section here than it did on eBay!

    Dobbs 20 Size 7.5

Glad to hear you'll be enjoying that fine hat. Hats don't need liners, especially if you don't put a lot of product on your hair. There are people who take the liners out of their hats, mostly because it makes the hat too warm. Your vintage 20 is far superior to any Dobbs product you...

    Recently Aquired Vintage Borsalino Hats

"These are the hates (sic) that I have recently aquired (sic)..." Me, I love Borsalinos... :p Nice, though. As a 7 1/4 the world is your (felt) oyster.

    Post New Hats Here!

There are a lot of Sears hats to be seen on this site. But they are all under the "Pilgrim" label. It appears your hat is post-Pilgrim, so post-1964: http://www.searsarchives.com/brands/pilgrim.htm Interestingly, it appears to be an older style.

    Perforation ventilation

Thanks. You mean this site, right? http://www.19th-century-us-history.com/ Probably not the worst site design ever, but certainly a contender. I sure can't find those grommets now. That's the same site I worked with before. They ran out... for about a year. Wasn't clear they'd...

    porkpie to teardrop

Unless you're an unusual size, why not just wait for a hat with a "C", open crown, or teardrop block already in it? Probably more common than a porkpie and easier to deal with.

REPRO flight jackets a little too good?

I was certainly aware of the odd contradiction when I ordered my Good Wear A-1. On the one hand, the A-1 was a military jacket issued, not fitted. Pictures show great variation in how they were worn. On the other hand, I was forking over big bucks and getting a hand made jacket created...

    Perforation ventilation

CRH, I did contemplate that in one of my many desperate moments, trying to figure out how I might wear this hat: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showpost.php?p=951703&postcount=84 But it's too far gone even for that treatment, I think. Tonyb, I punched those holes one at a time. For a while...
