Repro Jacket quality
Hi, Vern,
US Authentic is an entry level company which does fair quality - Aero - as Paddy, the moderator, can attest is among the world's best.
There is also another company in the US - known mostly as Flight Suits but now called Gibson and Barnes. Their quality...
Cedar and moths
Hi, Ken,
Apparently cedar is a moth repellant - I mentioned it to the wife and she gave that " I'm married to a retard look" cause everyone is supposed to know this.
Just buy a couple of small cedar slats 2" x 18" and place them in the jackets.

John Chapman's CD
Hi, Tallyho,
John Chapman's cd is just about jackets - but covers approximately 7200 pics of details you'd never find in a book - it's well worth the price for the research you could do.

Hi, Guys,
This is something I came across yesterday while looking for info on knit replacements.
US Wings will repair / restore any make jacket including knit replacement - I think the cost is around $100.00 for complete knits.
I have no knowledge as to their workmanship but it could be...
Hi, Grant,
Do the jackets really need to be sent to a place like Aero for knit replacements especially as the original stitch holes are hidden?
Or is it something that really should be done by an expert?

Patch hole removal
Hi, Nick,
One of the things I've read on the other site is to taks a hammer to the holes while wet and slightly tap all around the circle the holes from a patch have made - apparently it shrinks them to the point of almost being invisible.
Do a search on VLJ and see...
Hi, Kenny,
Thanks for posting the pics.
I think the most remarkable thing is how thin most of those guys were - no wonder it is so hard finding a size 50 original A-2.

Jacket hangars
Hi, Kenny,
For long term storage it is best to lay the jacket flat and zipped up in a drawer wide enough for the jacket to fit without wrinkling. To this add a couple of pieces of unfinished cedar strips about a foot long by 2" wide and 1/4" thick for moth repellant.
If...
Hi, Kenny,
They've been removed from Photo Bucket or relocated on Photo Bucket.
They have to remain in the same place to always be available to the thread.
Go back to your original post and click on the thread.

Aero's Real Deal
Hi, Kenny,
From what the guys on the other forum - VLJ -have said it is a great bargain.
You get a jacket that is made from mismatched hides similar to those originals made near the end of the A-2 jacket run in WWII and a reasonably authentic copy in the bargain...
Hi, Silhoutte53,
I agree with the others that this jacket is an excellent fit.
One thing I'll suggest to all of you is that you invest in a camera tripod and learn to use the timer on your digital cameras.
You then can take all the pics you want of yourself by yourself without trying...
Hi, Mike,
It's an Aero W535 ac-21996 original.
The jacket on the right is a Rough Wear W525 ac-18091 original.
Both from John Chapman's United States Flight Jackets CD.

Hi, Kenny,
Very nice pics and glad you got the hang of posting them.
As to the Aero - in all due respect to our fellow posters - I'd recommend sticking with Flight Suits (Gibson & Barnes).
The reason being is that the Aero are a trimmer style more along the lines of what would have been...
FS A-2 pics
Hi, Kenny,
I've got a pic post ing faq at the VLJ forum pronlems/ questions that will help post pics here or there.
I'd really appreciate see how the jacket fits you - I'm about the same size and have a size 46 on order - and I'm wondering if it isn't a little large.

A-2 Fakes/ forgeries
Hi, Paddy,
Some of the best advice I could give is to get John CHapman's Flight Jacket CD.
It shows many of the originals and the details to help make a better informed decision as to what is out there for sale.
Maybe you'd like to pass along the info to your...
Would you mind elaborating as to how you did it exactly.
Did you completely soak the jacket in the washing machine, how long, did the lining get wet?
How did you dry it - in an automatic dryer - or just let it sit and dry out?

Cooper G-1 questions / issues
Hi, Lawrence,
I would look into a M-422a made by Flight Suits (Gibson and Barnes).
It is the historic version of that model and the forerunner of the G-1.
It has a mouton collar, rayon lining, goatskin and very close reproduction which includes the...
