Again late to the game - here's a pic I came across showing a 1940s pic of a man wearing a Highwayman type leather jacket - see how the front zipper box is about half way down the trouser zipper length
Hi, Jdj,
I know its been a long time since you had the San Diego Leather Highwayman made but what did you mean when so said about having the neck hole done to the correct size?
I'm going through the same things you did 6 or 7 years ago.
Bill
PS - Sorry guys - just looked at the members list...
Is there any practical reason for motorcycle type jackets to have the zippers near the center of the jacket when closed??
The same thing for vertical zippers - they always seem to close at the top.
I would have thought that the zippers closing at the top would have a tendency to fall open...
Hi, Folks,
A little late to the game but I'd like to share something I learned about jacket fit and this will pertain to whether you wear '40s style trousers all the time or the newer lower waist but crack exposing style of today.
Put your trousers on properly - that is just a little snug in...
Hi, Folks,
VLJ is back up and running as of Tuesday 17 Nov, 2015 4:30 PM EST.
Apparently when our host server did their - I stress "their" updates they upset the apple cart and knocked us offline temporarily.
They've fixed the culprit files and we're now talking with the database again...
Hi, Kojax,
The site is down for a bit - we're hoping to be back up and running by the weekend - I get the info then as I can't get into the site right now.
Cheers,
Bill French
Hi, Folks,
We haven't completely given up yet.
On the plus side I'm finding that my patience and BS tolerance levels are being sorely tested by the techies who run the host site - and it's graded as one of the top three available.
Well, anyway, the latest techie report is this verbatim...
Hi, Folks,
Sorry for the delay in posting here but I've been a little preoccupied since sometime Monday.
Initially contacted the forum hosting site and reported the problem - at first the techie said he could do a site restore based on their backups - that would be 16 Oct, 2015 - if that had...
Hi, Johnny,
A solution to the cuffs and waistband would be to order a set from Gibson and Barnes and have US A install them on their jacket.
As to the sizing - a jacket should be approximately 4" wider than your chest measurement halved.
That is if you have a 44" chest - the jacket...
Hi, Folks,
Your are right - it is not a newsboy / Gatsby hat - they are eight panels - just found this out later after the original post - what I'm looking for is a driving / golfing hat - live and learn.:)
Here's the url on eBay where I found the attached pic...
Hi, Folks,
My first foray into the hat / cap world.
All I've ever worn in the past has been baseball type caps.
Now I'd like to expand slowly by going to a Gatsby / newsboy type leather hat / cap - not even sure if it's a hat or cap.
I've done some net searches / searches here and on...
Hi, Johnny,
Do a a search for US Authentic and also fedoralover.
Here's one link -

Hello, Johnny from another Canuck,
A better choice would be to visit US Authentic website
http://www.usauthentic.com/
They have an A-2 that starts at $294.00 and for $100.00 you can customize it to your liking.
It's an entry level A-2 which will never be mistaken for the mall type jackets...
G&B sizing
Hi, Kevin,
You're the same height as me - 176cm / 5'-9.5" - just went and measured myself.
Didn't realize but since I've had pretty severe arthritis in the knees causing some bowing of the legs, I've lost an inch in height - makes the pounds to inches ratio even worse -...
Hi, Razor,
I have a G&B historic A-2 with the collar stand in the russet goat, another A-2 in mahogany horsehide, an M-422a and a custom made AN-J-3 in horsehide.
I have a 48" chest and wear their size 46 jackets. They all fit about the same so if you have one model that fits in a size 42...
Hi, Folks,
I know some of you are members of the VLJ forum so I thought I'd pass this info along.
The VLJ forum has been running like cold molasses on a winter morning due to some changes the provider made to their servers forcing us to throw up our hands and move to another server...
Hi, Kevin,
Goto Flight Suits measurement page -
http://www.flightsuits.com/info_measure.html
Print the page and go to a tailor and have him take exacting measurements.
Then when you talk to FS they'll be better able to fit your needs.
But to me - with a 48" chest - I wear a size...
