I agree with HD; the Lost Worlds horsehide is chrome tanned and drum dyed, fully pigmented and does not fade and the finish doesn't wear off. It's a different process from vegetable tanning/aniline finish leather. The LW hides look great once they wrinkle and crease over time, developing their...
If you aren't overly concerned with 100% authenticity, you might want to check out The Cockpit; their G-1 jackets are very well made and are in the same price range as G&B's Civil G-1.
If TFL was around when I got my first jacket (1982, a "Tales of the Gold Monkey" Jake Cutter Schott A-2 with home-made blood chit), I would've saved alot of trial and error (and $$$). The info on this forum and the friendly, knowledgable folks dishing it out, are such a valuable resource! Every...
Here's a dark horse for ya' (no pun intended): Lost Worlds Suburban in black HH. Trust me, it's a masterpiece! Just something else to contemplate. Good luck friend.
Beware: no one buys just one jacket! First it's a russet A-2, then a seal brown G-1, then a dark seal A-2, etc, etc.
That's the fun of it! Enjoy the process :-)
Thank goodness for Insurrection and the "fit jackets" they send for sizing. Imagine jackets sent back and forth (multiple times) to Scotland for sizing issues??? The postage/customs/duty fees would be ridiculous!
Hi'ya Brett,
Well I received the BK M-422 in August and I posted afew pics when the jacket was fresh out of the box (mostly for fit purposes and my ear-to-ear grin). Jacket is gorgeous! As soon as I get a chance, I'll try to take more pics and post 'em up now that the jacket has broken in...
IMHO cafe racers look better in black while half belts (and highwaymen) look better in brown.
You can wear a half belt with a t-shirt or dress it up with a shirt and tie. I'd go for the half belt.
I agree with Doctor Strange; the Navy specified goatskin for their leather flight jackets for abrasion resistance but it's not the same as the armor-like "bulletproof" thick horse and steer hide jackets.
And of course there are different weights (thickness) and quality of goatskin. Some...
Goatskin leather with a nylon/rayon lining (like in a G-1 jacket) is probably a good all around choice. You can layer underneath for warmth and when worn alone with a t-shirt (in a club or at 60 degrees F) and you won't melt! Good luck.
