Thanks for this, Alan. My Borsalino roller had been in its box since the 50s.
I unrolled it and steamed it and it smoothed and formed by itself. I recommend
people try this, especially with fine quality hats, before moving on to more extreme
measures.
When I do move on to more extreme...
Let me restate my original query. I grant you that the economy is now lopsided and the middle class isn't what
it was back then.
What companies/stores are selling high quality goods or quality vintage goods at reasonable prices today that we will look back
on in coming decades? That Banana...
I'd argue that those are entirely different animals. Banana Republic was priced for the regular person. Also they
stocked real vintage stuff. The links you sent are closer to couture- luxury items. That deerskin RRL A-1 is the
same price as a Good Wear custom job.
Yeah, I remember the Polk Street store. Great stuff in there. WWII era sweaters, etc.
Just crap now.
Rather than list the brands of bygone eras, let's list the stores that are great now.
Who are the Banana Republics of today that we should visit before they disappear?
My Good Wear A-1 is size 50. Okay, that's 52 to John and the jacket carries a 48 tag because he didn't have a 52.
Maybe he changed his policy?
I'm pretty sure Aero would make almost anything in almost any size.
Anyone can post pictures. You just have to post them as a link to a photo site.
Put them on Flickr.com or something like that, generate links, and post away.
Wish I thought I could get away with a Grizzly-style jacket. They are amazing.
I have that jacket from 1/09, in a modern size 50. Can I answer any questions?
I hear John can't get that capeskin anymore, but has a source for a similar capeskin.
But I could be out of date on that. Hard to tell - that jacket could be horse.
Mine...
Ouch, FM! I just found this response. The pictures are now gone.
Oh well.
Probably it's a lot like this one?

I certainly think 'more than twice the price of a Good Wear' is "pricey".

Looks nice, if not as accurate as a GW. Let's not talk about the other color option...
Nice stuff. I might have to get a pair of these...
New thread! New thread!
I've seen worse "processing" by puppies, BTW...
Oh, and that SFVMC cap is awesome. Wish I could try one on somewhere. Do you find them true to size?
