I sew my own clothing from vintage patterns, but I don't wear or like real vintage clothing. And I even wear those slobby ole jeans half the time.
I listen to "golden era" music, but it's in my very modern iPod alongside music from the 1890s to today. If I had to listen to one type of music...
I agree. You can spot a 70s or 80s garment from a mile away. It's not a bad thing if that's what you want to go for, but if you want authentic you need to stick with real vintage or learn to sew from authentic vintage patterns. That's the best way -- you get the cut and style of an authentic...
MEH.
Re: Posture -- I guess she's never seen a 1920s or 1930s yearbook with all the slumpy teenagers in their often ill-fitting dresses. I guess if it's not in a Hollywood movie it's not "right."
Hobbies -- Yea, I was unaware that they went away, too.
Supper Clubs -- I'm certain that...
I love popular culture and fashion of the entire 20th century with special emphasis on the 1920s, 1930s, and 1980s (I grew up then -- nostalgic reasons!)
I wish I could pull something like that off!!! But I would just crack up laughing and totally give myself away as a hoaxster. I also have tattoos, but they are vintage in nature and some people in a two-bit town wouldn't know the difference anyway...lol
Man, to hear all the media studies...
My apartment was built in 1926 and has both a shower and a bath. They are separate from each other and on opposite ends of the bathroom. It even has an original 1928 shower door frame with original apartment building crest on it. (There is a manufacturer and number inside -- I googled it...
Not really "vintage", but my mom...
And sometimes I look like great grandmom when I have on my glasses and no lipstick:
Not the best pic, but they took pics so far away in those days!! lol
Couldn't agree more with you LD. I'm also so sick of the hype and people on FB saying how "amazing" the video is (in all seriousness.) I can't believe that people can't figure out she is most likely testing a hearing aid!!!
I've often wondered the same.
My grandmother told me that HER grandparents didn't even have electricity until the 1940s because "they didn't need it!" I should ask her how the groomed themselves.....
They call in nothing in Philadelphia. No one does anything malicious. We have better things to do.
When I lived in the Jersey 'burbs it was called "Mischief Night" and all the bored suburban kids would toilet paper trees and soap car windows. Oooooh!! Tough!!!
This is me. I'm 35 and STILL don't have a "set style." I refuse to have one! There are so many fun and creative looks out there that if I limited myself I'd be unhappy and uncomfortable. I might be a 1920s flapper with a straight bob one day, the next I'll have pincurls, a perfect...
Oh yea -- it looks waitress-y!! YEAY! Goth waitress!!! lol
This si one of my very favourite patterns. Too bad I gained some weight and don't know how to resize it anymore :(
