I have a good local tailor (an older Chinese woman; when I had a blood chit sewn on one jacket she said "oh, Flying Tigers!"; turns out her uncle worked with them at one of their air bases during the war!) who has done alot of work for me in the past; I think she charged me $20-30. Well worth it...
I had a G&B civil A-2; knowing they run a bit large, I bought mine one size smaller then my usual sport coat size and it fit fine in sleeve length, shoulders and chest but was still a bit blousey/roomy around the waist so I had my tailor taper the sides (from under the armpit down to the waist)...
Just got an automated e-mail notice from US Authentic (flightjacket.com) stating that due to an increase in leather prices, they will be raising the cost of their A-2 jackets next month; Smithy's WPG jacket seems like an even better deal!
I consulted "Mrs. Thor" and she suggested trying make-up removal pads and to make sure they are the alcohol- and oil-free type (also advise testing in an inconspicuous area of the jacket). Good luck!
WWII jackets only came in "regular" length sizing but today's military-issue clothing all come in regular, short and tall sizes, another concession to modern-day comfort, fit and convenience.
I believe these "21st Century" A-2 jackets also have an extra panel along the side of the body (thus there are two seams on each side of the jacket body, from armpit to waistband). It gives them a more relaxed fit then the 1987 "USAF re-issue" model A-2.
AL has 18 different choices of leather for their Roadhouse model jacket; Aero has 7 different colors/types of FQHH for the Highwayman, plus a heavy steerhide and mid-weight HH option. Once you ask yourself "what's the difference?" you open Pandora's Box! That's where TFL becomes invaluable as a...
I think it's the use of FQHH trim on the inside pocket that contributes to any "show-through" of the pocket outline. Horizontal or vertical, if the trim is thick, stiff FQHH, eventually the indent or "ghost" outline of the inner pocket could start to show over time (and use).
If one were truly...
I called them on the phone and we discussed the sizing issue and foot trace; they have my measurements in inches (foot length, instep, heel, ankle, etc) along with my tracings. They agreed to size up (slightly) to a 10FF and said angling the pencil or pushing it too tightly against one's foot...
I wear an 11 wide in just about all brands that offer it. I opt for the 114E in New Balance running shoes.
You've got a point about the tracing possibly being off (I had my wife trace my feet and she probably traced my foot a bit too closely). Going down 1.5 sizes seems extreme. I will contact...
The days of merely choosing "black or brown" or "goatskin, cowhide or horsehide" for a leather jacket purchase are long gone. Now it's all about tanning processes, dying techniques, thickness in mm, weight in ounces per square yard, top vs full grain and which quadrant of the hide and which...
Gentlemen, do White's boots run big? Just placed an order for the Centennial Hikers and mailed them a tracing of my feet and all the required measurements (instep, heel, length, etc). They measured me at a 9.5 FF (I'm usually an 11 EEE).
Any thoughts or experience with White's boots sizing...
That old phrase, "the devil is in the details" comes to mind. Just try to enjoy the jacket as-is and don't worry about the pocket. Wear it in good health.
