Half-belt placement
THAT is where the belt should be located on a half-belt...... not in the middle of the back like Aero tends to put theirs. Anyone know why Aero does that, BTW? I love the brand, but the placement of the halfbelt always makes the jackets look shorter in the body.
I guess that depends on if you own the rights, or are looking to buy! In the art world (which I consider many of these classy jackets) immitation is flattery. IMHO, a "replica" is an exact attempt to copy something from a specific historical period or era. Change a few details (or a lot) and...
my two cents worth
If it were me, being that it is such an unusual label (and therefore more collectable), I wouldn't wear it or alter it in any way. I'd either keep it as a collector's item or sell it. Should bring a good price and could easily finance a good repro that I wouldn't care about...
Leather thickness
Great looking jacket! What is the thickness of the leather like? I've often wondered about the hides Wested uses, as I have only seen one Indy jacket in my life, and the lambskin was (IMHO) rather flimsy. I look forward to hearing more when you have a chance to break it in...
outstanding!
Fantastic work, Mark! Once my (your) new A-2 rolls in, I need to talk to you about a custom jacket...........should you choose to accept the mission!
welcome to the forum!
Nice to meet you......... and if your jacket is original, it's a nice find, but as Peacoat said, it should be fairly obvious as sheepskin does not generally age as well as other types of hides, It should look 60+ years old, unless cared for amazingly well.
decal advice
Phantom's advice is sound. If you order a jacket with a patch or decal already applied, you may not be able to send it back if sized wrong. If there is any customization ordered, US Authentic will generally send you a jacket to try on, to make sure sizing is correct before...
Hoping to get some input from those who know! Im trying to find a quality leather field jacket in goat or mid-weight HH, or even good steerhide, but all I'm finding in the 4-pocket style is pure crap! Best I can find are COOPER M-65 or THE DENIRO JACKET from Magnoli, but I can't tell the...
answers
I have HH A-2 from US Authentic.........love it. Originals were found in HH, goat and even a few documented steerhide. Goat is (IMHO) usually a good choice beacuse it has a comfortable "hang" so it conforms to your body curves well, and is very tough wearing. Goat will last longer...

Maybe someone mentioned this already, but try:
www.sportsmansguide.com
They had 2 variations in the last catalog for less than $30. Or, for a more seasoned look.....check around on some of the WW2 reenactor sites for a good used anorak. Pre-beaten for your convenience! :-)
visual affiction
Poor Johnny! You see "Luftwaffe" jackets lurking in every shape and form! :-) Run towards the light, Johnny! Run!!!!
I have the sandstone barncoat with sherpa lining. How they hold those Sherpas down while skinning is beyond me! (Booooooo). :eusa_doh:
The sandstone...
Nat geo stuff
Yes, just took a look. It appears to be all basic department store quality (meaning so-so at best) at greatly inflated prices. This is not to be unexpected though, as Nat Geo is trying to make a little on the side here, and clothing is NOT what they are all about!
You can get...
the big question.........
Personally, I can't justify possibly ruining/altering a historically significant WW2 garment, when only a finite number exist. Most 60 year-old-plus leather is not in peak condition anymore. I'm happy with a very authentic reproduction.
two cent's worth
Hi Lenny, If I can jump in here.......... I've had my USAuthentic horsehide for about 4 years now. While not an everyday jacket (by choice.........too many other Aeros to wear!), I do wear it probably about 30 times a year and have to say that it still is not really...
