Taylors leatherwear
Like some less-than-top-shelf brands, often crucified on FL, I've worn Taylor's duty jackets almost every day for the last 16 years......... tough as nails, and tend to look better and better the more beat they get. $50 is a steal for a real workhorse. I had one of their...
....at last!
Thanks, Gustav! That makes sense. I love the "beat" look of the jacket. Needs a bit more wearing though. I can currently stand it it the corner by itself!
Assuming.......
Respectfully, with the generous weighing in of many proven experts, while I fully agree with the intent and the wisdom, most are ASSUMING that all of us will eventually end up with a high-end jacket (if we just wait and save our pennys), the fact may be that some of us will...
cuff straps
In some cases they seem to actually serve a function of tightening to keep the wind from going up the wrist, but I think in most cases they are simply classy looking decorations. The shirt straps are a different matter, and not the same as jacket cuff straps.
photos
OK....... I tried photobucket and here are some photos. Obviously, the flash is causing some shine to various areas. I must be dense as I can see no "mottling" on this jacket!
look here
Hi Sixties,
Try this link. Shows some pis of mostly finished jacket Mark is working on. Should be able to contact him through the thread (or PM). I have an A-2 on the way from him. He keeps the FL posted on most of his works and how they are progressing.......... quite...
argh.......
Thanks for all the opinions! The jacket is plain black with no variations in color or texture. Just looks older than it's actual years. Hard to explain. I'll try to get a photo downloaded. It really is best described as "pre-distressed." There definately is a rougher grain...
Fish needs a label!
Oh, this sounds like a challenge!!:eusa_clap
What about a variation on one of your mentioned ideas...... How about "Iron Range Flight Apparel?" Gives an impression of ruggedness and "blue-collar" values.
Any other good name/label ideas for Mark? Weigh in here folks!:)
I recently picked up an Aero Highwayman in black FQHH. According to the seller (Aero ....from their used page) it is listed as "mottled." I love the jacket.... it is beautifully broken in and actually looks wonderfully beat on the outside. Inside is spotless clean and given the Aero brand...
Custom jacket
As you mentioned "custom" jackets........ have you contacted "Fishmeok" (Mark) on this forum? Does beautiful work and at an excellent price. Might be worth checking in?
Herk's advice is well-researched and generally sound......great addition to the cumulative knowledge of the FL......... BUT, you overlook one point that seems to the hinge on which most purchases are made........BUDGET.
Yes, US A may not be as authentic (but owning a HH from them, I can...
another angle
Interesting hypothesis...... having friends in the Hollywood prop business, I think that no statement was intended other than "close enough for the average viewer." The Tiger tanks were altered T-34s and some of the US troops in the background were wearing post-war field...
"May fortune favor he foolish."
Well said! I still think it's great when one of us scores an item that we are excited about, for whatever reason, "authentic" or not. When posted, we all get to share in the enthusiasm. I think that's cool.
changes.......
I have, as a personal taste thing, avoided button-front coats in favor of zippers, BUT........... damn that coat looks great Jan! I love the way it broke in.
