Hello all. I have been working on a reproduction of Amelia Earhart's leather flight jacket for some time now. I am pleased to finally present the prototype. A lot of work and research has gone into this jacket. I have poured over archives and photos to produce the most accurate reproduction of...
Hello all, I have to sell my prized 1965 Star G-1. This has been in my personal collection for nearly 10 years. I wore it on occasion but not too much over the years. The jacket is all original and has all it's original parts intact. There is a small repair to one of the cuffs which is not...
Yes and here's an original. As you can see the flaps are much more angular than on that repro. The pockets on that repro look much more like a W&G. More rounded and curved like an "M".
The pockets on the jacket in question in the OP are more like a W&G than this original LW Foster IMO. If we...
No. The LW 55J14 flaps were not as deep on the shape. See below. There was some variance also from jacket to jacket so it can be hard to say for sure. But this is what I am referring to:
Original LW 55J14 pocket: Original WG M422 Flap:
A definite 100% ID is probably not...
Yes W&G and some others used brown rayon on the WWII M422, ANJ-3A, and AN6552 jackets. They were not all red.
Those pocket flaps are more like W&G than Monarch. W&G had very deeply scalloped pocket flaps. More so than others.
Also that pocket looks like it may have the pencil slot on the left...
Looks like a W&G to me based on the pocket shape and collar shape. The zipper is a replacement. Could be a WWII jacket so it may not be a G1. Any stencil on the back of the collar?
Dave is a great guy and solid jacket maker! We have been online friends for years. He is a big Monarch fan and has had a ton of rare Monarch originals. I have seen his work and it's top notch. I have seen him completely dis-assemble an M-422, replace bad panels, and reassemble the jacket into a...
I got to see him fly 3 or 4 times as a kid growing up. He was a regular performer at the "Antique Fly In" show in Watsonville, CA. I was very amazed by his skills. Even more so after getting my multi-engine rating years later and thinking back at what I saw him do in Twin Engine airplanes. Hell...
I just found a great source for Duck Canvas. Looks like we can get White, Cream, Golden Brown, and Medium Brown colors. We will probably construct our production model out of the Med Brown with the Tan cotton liner and Light brown knits. I will upload some sample shots when I get a chance.
Hi guys, we have been kicking around this very idea at Headwind mfg now for some time. I have been sourcing the right material for the project. Ours version will be a canvas outer material with a 100% cotton sateen lining. It is going to be a future production, we have a few more projects in the...
I have one of our test jackets for sale from our A-1 Racer project. This jacket has nice 3 oz black goatskin leather and a unique vintage inspired style. It has 100% wool knits, 100% cotton sateen liner, and vintage style wide rimmed black buttons. Just two minor things to mention about the...
