Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone recognises this label? I came across it in a charity shop and I'm wondering if it's worth while?

Regards

I’m pretty sure that’s an early Goodwear Leather reproduction of an Aero Leather A-2 label.

Wonder how it ended up there... I'm just imagining somewhere out there, a husband and his wife arguing "have u seen my Goodwear jacket?" "which one is that? the brown one? They are all brown. They all look the same. 2 year waiting time? Come on now.. it's just jackets and you have so many...The ones you stored in the garden house? Brought them to charity...Your Northface jacket suits you much better anyway" :D

Maybe the original owner just died and the person left to execute the remaining items just gave all the clothing to the charity. My Mrs is a little like that though she does know what I paid for certain things I have such as my leathers, but then she does not know the true value of other items such as the rare old model kits I used to collect, or some of the older books I have paid a lot for and especially my old Hot Rod magazine collection dating to 1948. This last item I could see her letting go for £10 the lot even though I paid £20+ per single issue.
Over here I think the bargain at the charity shop is a thing of the past as they now employ someone to check anything worth while. Where as in the past, someone who wanted a nice warm coat could pick up a Crombie(the brand, not a generic overcoat)for £5 now it will be put online for some vintage enthusiast rather than someone who may really need it but can't afford the online price.
Recently I was in the Salvation Army shop while collector customers sorted through some mint Star Wars toys as the shop manager checked online prices before selling them. I know the charity shops are after the most money for the charity they work for but they do get this stuff given for free. I even saw a bike jacket with a label stating "Like Lewis leathers £80" which it obviously wasn't.

Hello gents, as stated by Thor, the jacket is an early Goodwear Aero with one of John Chapman's early label formats. I emailed JC to ensure I was buying what I thought I was and he has confirmed its one of his. This is obviously good news! While I was picking up the russet A2 I also got another GW in Seal (which is breathtaking) and a couple of Eastman A2's as well. I will head back soon to get the Aero's they have put aside for me.........!

The shop is not actually a charity shop at all. I found it in a shared shopfront in a very small town in NE Victoria. Up here some of the larger shops (often ex car showrooms or furniture shops) in off the tourist trail towns share a building but operate separately so in this case its part charity shop (to the left) and part second hand shop (to the right). The owner is aware of what the jackets are but does not sell on the internet and no one will buy them (other than those in the know) at market value in the store so they just wanted to move them. Turns out an old fella passed away who was an avid collector and the family turn up at the shop every so often with a trailer of stuff. Mostly it the usual household stuff but often there is gems as I have found out. The business owner was very please with the price I paid (it included an original AM issue whistle) and will keep me posted next time similar goods come in.

I'm a bit dizzy after all this! It all felt a little too good to be true but after checking things out on the internet I appear to have a good deal!

Regards
